E-MON's Energy Translator Allows Single Dashboard for Energy Managers

- Creates Common Interface for Variety of Meters, Protocols, Platforms -

LANGHORNE, Pennsylvania - Sept. 22, 2003 - E-MON, L.P., the industry leader in energy submetering equipment, today introduced the Energy Translator(TM), an intelligent hardware interface that translates energy data from multiple meters, sensors and other inputs into a single output format that is compatible with popular industry-standard energy management and distributed generation systems. The result allows a comprehensive snapshot of energy data from the E-MON D-MON® and other E-MON® kWh meters, digital inputs from third-party water, gas and electrical meters, and temperature, humidity and other analog sensor inputs. The onboard Pentium-class CPU also enables energy data to be uploaded, if desired, to the Internet as a rugged, on-site Web server with complete firewall protection.

Adding significant flexibility to new system designs and building retrofits, the Energy Translator contains an extensive suite of data format support (XML, CSV and CMEP) and compatible interfaces, including:
o Modbus - Generic RTU or TCP (master and slave);
o BACnet - Internet Protocol or Ethernet (Local Area Networks);
o ABB - PCD2000; SCD2000; Alpha+;
o Johnson N1/RS-232;
o Dallas 1-wire protocol; Siemens Quad 4; Andover 256M/RS-232; and
o Capstone Microturbine and other distributed generation equipment.

The device's compact, ruggedized steel enclosure - 11.75" (H) x 13.5" (W) x 6.5" (D) - is easy to install and can interface with factory floor equipment via contact closure, serial and other outputs. Easily accessible screw terminations and plug-in jacks are also included for multiple connections, including communications ports (4 serial; 1 console serial; 1 Ethernet; 1 optional modem; 2 Dallas single-port distributed I/O) and inputs and outputs (4 general-purpose digital inputs; 2 solid-state, opto-isolated SPST relay outputs).

"The Energy Translator is the most cost-effective solution available today for communicating with multiple devices and systems throughout a building envelope," said Dave Bovankovich, vice president of engineering at E-MON. "It also accommodates harsh industrial environments with broad temperature and humidity ranges."

Available as a standalone device, or mounted in a multiple meter unit (MMU) enclosure, the Energy Translator is designed to handle 0-70°C (21-158°F) and up to 90% non-condensing relative humidity. Requiring 24VAC for operation, the Energy Translator provides an optional Uninterruptible Power Supply (with integral battery charger) for back-up power and to ensure data integrity. Prices start at $1,498 and the equipment is available from more than 3,000 distributors. For the nearest distributor location, call E-MON at (800) 334-3666 or visit www.emon.com.
