Invensys Releases Eurotherm Intelligent I/O System with Ethernet Communications
New enhancement to the successful model 2500 family serves as remote I/O for PLC's, HMI's and Eurotherm control products
LEESBURG, VA, USA, May 23, 2003 - Eurotherm®, a business unit of Invensys® plc and a leading manufacturer and supplier of industrial instrumentation for the process control and data acquisition industries, has launched a new version of the Eurotherm model 2500 intelligent I/O system. The Ethernet version of this innovative product functions as remote I/O for PLCs, HMIs, or the Eurotherm model T800 visual control system. The 2500 can also operate as a stand-alone PID loop controller for up to eight loops. Ethernet communications joins the existing Modbus®, DeviceNet(TM) and Profibus® protocols, extending the product's functionality. The primary features added in the Ethernet version include:
o Up to four simultaneous masters. This allows four devices to communicate to the 2500 at the same time.
o 10 baseT field communications
o Ability to obtain IP address from Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol *DHCP) server. This is selectable by a configuration parameter called "DHCP Enable"
o Preferred master connection. This ensures that a connection is always available for the preferred master.
With its small footprint and DIN rail mounting, the Eurotherm model 2500 can be mounted where the control action is required. This minimizes field wiring costs and increases system integrity. The intelligent I/O system has analog inputs/outputs and digital inputs/outputs for all standard signal types. The 2500 can perform PID control, advanced PID control (cascade, ratio, override), self-tuning, combinational logic and alarming functions. Sensors such as thermocouples, RTD's, strain gauges, etc. can be direct-wired to inputs. Custom linearization can be done for special transducer curve fitting. The powerful feature set make the 2500 ideal for applications requiring distributed I/O, remote PID control loops, or logic control. It makes an excellent small distributed control system when combined with industrial HMI software such as InTouch® software from Wonderware.
