Intel Partners with NETGEAR for Wireless-N Networking Solutions on Cutting-Edge Santa Rosa Centrino Platform

Move aims to tap booming laptop market which rose by 60% with 1.3 million units sold in the UAE and KSA in 2006

June 12, 2007 NETGEAR, a worldwide provider of technologically advanced, branded networking products, has announced its partnership with Intel to enable notebook users to maximize their Wi-Fi experience on the recently launched Santa Rosa Centrino platform, the next generation of Centrino Duo technology, which offers unrivalled overall performance, a range of wireless technology and power saving. The move is aimed at tapping the burgeoning laptop market, which soared by 60 per cent and reached 1.3 million units in UAE and KSA last year according to the latest reports from IDC.

With NETGEAR's RangeMax Wireless-N routers (WNR834B and WNR854T) and the new Santa Rosa models with built-in Wireless-N, home users will be able to experience connectivity at gigabit speed in any part of the house. The routers have a built-in 4-port gigabit switch, which delivers up to 1000 Mbps to wired devices and has a coverage range 10 times wider than those offered by older wireless technology. These award-winning devices also ensure compatibility and interoperability with the new 802.11 Draft-N as well as 802.11a and 802.11b/g standards.

"When Intel Centrino was introduced four years ago, it revolutionized the computing landscape with its cutting-edge mobile innovations. We have subsequently supported the Centrino technology with a range of solutions that will enable users to experience the best that wireless technology has to offer, and now our routers ensure optimum overall performance on the Santa Rosa Centrino platform," said Ahmad Zeidan, Channel Sales Manager, NETGEAR Middle East.

The Santa Rosa Centrino platform combines Intel's next generation Core Duo 2 processor and Wireless-N network, resulting in unprecedented bandwidth, speed and coverage. Supporting the latest Centrino platform, NETGEAR's Wireless-N routers utilize 'Steady Stream' technology to allow users to perform media-centric tasks all at the same time such as streaming music and videos, making VoIP calls and browsing the web without freezes and interruptions. The exceptional streaming capability on this new platform is set to revolutionize home entertainment, as NETGEAR's Wireless-N routers coupled with its previously launched EVA700 Digital Entertainer will enable users to stream high-quality videos from the internet directly to an LCD TV. The enhanced capability of the Draft-N technology also extends Wi-Fi coverage and eliminates dead spots, allows users to save on energy and boosts of the highest levels of data security.

NETGEAR's latest range of solutions that support Draft-N technology also includes adapters and Smart Internal Antennas, which enable notebook users to connect and interoperate with the latest Wi-Fi technology. A new family of adapters (PCCard Adapter and Express Card) from NETGEAR allows owners of older laptop models to utilize the latest high-performing platform together with NETGEAR's RangeMax Wireless-N routers. In line with its position as a leading provider in the regional industry, the company participated in the recent launch of Intel's Santa Rosa Centrino platform in the UAE and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

"Wireless technology will continue to change the future and that is why we have given top priority to attaining certifications for our networking products from Intel. We have formed our goals and strategies according to the technological trends, which has enabled us to answer to shifting demands and allowed us to leverage emerging business opportunities brought by the changing landscape. Our comprehensive range of networking solutions has been a significant driver in our global revenues, which reached USD 173.6 million in the first quarter this year," concluded Zeidan.
