Integrated Circuits have ultra-low dropout of 500 mV.

Press Release Summary:

Low-dropout regulator (LDO) ICs are manufactured in S-Pak packaging. MIC3730X LDOs provide 1.5, 1.8, or 2.5 V at 3 A from minimum supply of 2.25 or 3.0 V. Model MIC37300 has 3 terminals, MIC37301 includes fault condition error flag and enable pin for on/off control. MIC37302 offers adjustable output voltage as well as output voltage on/off control. All devices are microCap designs, which permits them to use tantalum or ceramic capacitors.

Industry's Smallest, Lightest 3A LDO Regulators Aim for Low-Voltage, High Power Applications

- ... Ideal for powering low-voltage DSPs, microcontrollers, and digital logic

- ... less than two-thirds the area of TO-263 packaging, almost half the thickness

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- (March 26, 2002) - A family of three low-voltage, high current low-dropout regulator (LDO) ICs in the industry's smallest, thinnest, and lightest power packaging is now available from Micrel Semiconductor (NASDAQ: MCRL), an industry leader in power management and high-speed communication ICs.

"These new LDOs occupy less than two-thirds the area of LDOs in traditional TO-263 packaging and are almost half the thickness while providing the same power handling capability of larger devices. They are ideal solutions for powering low-voltage ICs where real estate is limited but performance requirements are high," said John McGinty, senior product marketing engineer.

Manufactured by Micrel in S-Pak packaging, the 3-Amp MIC3730X LDOs provide 1.5V, 1.8V, or 2.5V from a minimum supply of 2.25V or 3.0V. All devices in the family feature a dropout of 500mV over all conditions.

The MIC37300 is a three-terminal device, offering application simplicity and high performance. The MIC37301 includes an error flag to warn of fault conditions, and the device provides an enable pin for on/off control. The MIC37302 offers the added benefit of an adjustable output voltage as well as on/off control of the output voltage.

All devices in the MIC3730X family are uCap designs, offering stability when driving high capacitance loads. The uCap capability permits the devices to use either tantalum capacitors or smaller, less expensive ceramic capacitors.

When purchased in a quantity of 1,000, pricing starts at $2.70. Samples are available, and production quantities are stock to 8 weeks ARO.
