2D/3D X-ray Inspection System Offers Enhanced Modular Software

STAMFORD, CONNECTICUT - COMET announces a dramatic enhancement to the award-winning FEINFOCUS - CT-FOX 2D/3D X-ray inspection system: hardware-based modular high-end volumetric isotropic rendering. The system combines award-winning high-resolution 2D X-ray technology with state-of-the-art 3D Computed Tomography techniques for the detailed inspection and analysis of complex electronic devices in the 3rd dimension. By utilizing dedicated hardware processors, the added hardware and software capability in the µCT-FOX provides the most comprehensive solution for enhanced defect detection, making the system ideal for complex electromechanical component inspection applications.

A hardware and software based CT solution represents the next-generation of CT user interface. Improved volumetric isotropic rendering provides superior accuracy for measurements, as volumes can be produced that reveal the depth value required for a full 3D analysis. Through dedicated hardware processors and sophisticated software algorithms, the modular CT package can gather data sets from any FEINFOCUS FOX 2D X-ray inspection system and process them through a CT reconstruction engine, making CT technology available to the masses. The resulting high-resolution CT images can be instantaneously uploaded to the internet, in real-time, using proprietary iView(TM) technology developed by TeraRecon, an ideal solution for an F/A service provider. This feature is unique to the µCT-FOX, as it allows F/A service labs to transmit CT imagery instantly using a secure internet connection. The software is seamlessly integrated into FEINFOCUS Graphical User Interface (FGUI) version 2.2, allowing users to save digital images in JPG, TIF, or BMP formats.

Combining the flexibility, functionality, and ergonomics of a standard microfocus X-ray system with the ability to generate 3D imagery, the µCT-FOX visualizes the most inner components and precise structural modeling of a device. The system instantaneously captures high-resolution images with film-like quality, even in real-time. This capability gives operators the most comprehensive solution for enhanced defect detection, making the system ideal for complex electromechanical component inspection applications. Cracks, voids, delamination, and other crucial anomalies can now be depicted in their actual 3D position, providing valuable insight into the design and manufacturing processes of these devices. TeraRecon software is standard on all µCT-FOX systems, and is available as an upgrade to all FEINFOCUS FOX systems.

FEINFOCUS, a COMET business unit, is a leading global supplier of award-winning high-resolution X-ray inspection systems. The combined resources of COMET and FEINFOCUS provide the most complete offering of X-ray technology and products in the world. FEINFOCUS offers full radiation-shielded X-ray systems and X-ray sources, as well as complete in-house X-ray services, such as failure analysis, component defect detection, technical support, and preventative maintenance for both FEINFOCUS and third-party systems. As pioneers of microfocus and nanofocus X-ray inspection technology, the company developed the first patented "open" X-ray tube in 1982, and remains an industry leader in non-destructive testing for electronics, semiconductor, and related industries.

FEINFOCUS is headquartered in Garbsen, Germany. In the Americas, the company maintains sales, service, and applications labs in Stamford, CT and San Jose, CA. In Asia, the company's sales and service office is located in Shanghai, China.
