DALSA's new Falcon 1.4M100 Area Camera Delivers High Frame Rates with Global Shuttering for Machine Vision Applications

Applications in Electronics and Semiconductor Inspection Will be showcased at VISION 2007 in Stuttgart, November 6-8

WATERLOO, ONTARIO - September 25, 2007 - DALSA Corporation [TSX: DSA] today announced the release of its Falcon 1.4M100, a 1.4 mega pixel area camera that delivers an incredible 100 frames per second at full resolution in an ultra-compact body. The Falcon 1.4M100 is ideal for applications in electronics manufacturing and semiconductor inspection which require faster inspection rates and greater inspection accuracy.

The Falcon 1.4M100 uses DALSA's patented CMOS sensor technology delivering exemplary image quality at high speeds that exceed the needs of today's most demanding applications. Only DALSA makes this possible through its global shutter technology and by achieving 57dB of dynamic range - a measure of image quality.

Fully programmable, via base mini-Camera Link, the Falcon 1.4M100 incorporates exposure control, windowing, gain and offset adjustment, and flat-field correction. Ease of use is enhanced through direct camera control using DALSA's CamExpert(TM) point-and-click graphical user interface, and the ability to transmit data using 10m long mini-Camera Link cables.

High-speed, smear-free still image capture is the hallmark of the DALSA Falcon cameras. Applications such as traffic management, metrology and robotics inspection all need to image fast-moving objects without smear or distortion. Other well-suited applications include: PCB-AOI and electronics inspection, semiconductor wafer inspection, flat panel display inspection and general machine vision such as print registration, pharmaceutical inspection.

Key Features and Benefits
Key features and benefits of the Falcon 1.4M100 include:
o 1.4 mega pixels, 1400(H) x 1024(V) resolution
o Global shutter (non-rolling) for crisp, clear images
o 100 fps (frames per second) model
o Compact camera body - 44 mm x 44 mm x 44 mm - fits into the smallest of places
o Base mini-Camera Link(TM) - SDR26 cable interface for greater ease of use
o Enhanced 10m mini-Camera Link data drive capability
o Vertical windowing for faster frame rate
o 7.4 µm x 7.4 µm pixel pitch
o 2x80 MHz data rates
o 8 or 10 bit selectable output
o Dynamic range of 57dB

"The Falcon 1.4M100 has the ability to increase throughput and the quality of inspection, which are of tremendous value to semiconductor and electronics inspection customers. Providing better image quality ensures more reliable inspection, and leads to fewer product defects and greater system efficiency," comments Mark Butler, product manager, at DALSA.

DALSA's Falcon 1.4M100 is now available to order, with production units shipping in Q4. The Falcon 1.4M100 is compatible with DALSA's Xcelera series of frame grabbers, which are PoCL (Power over Camera Link) capable, as well as, DALSA's X64-CL and Anaconda CL vision processors.
