Valenite Introduces New Tough, High-Strength Grade For Heavy Duty Turning

Valenite LLC has introduced the latest addition to its ValTURN(TM) Turning System with the development of the steel machining VP5535 grade. These new tools feature cutting edge toughness, provided by a cobalt enriched surface layer-backed by a high strength fine grain substrate core that resists plastic deformation-to deliver enhanced productivity performance at high speeds in heavy duty P30 to P40 range of rough turning applications of steel and stainless steels. The new grade features a MTCVD coating of TiCN/AbCVTiN for wear resistance, thermal protection and stability, along with a polished edge to minimize cutting edge build-up. The tools perform equally well for continuous or interrupted cuts, and in wet or dry applications, and provide easy recognition of worn edges to facilitate indexing procedures, and offer outstanding security with consistent and reliable performance.

The new VP5535 grade complements Valenite's existing VP5515 and VP5525, providing users with a range of options that focus on applications-specific needs, from fine finishing to general purpose to heavy roughing operations of steel and stainless steel and are able to deliver optimum performance, productivity, tool life, part quality and lower costs per part.

Currently, Valenite offers more than 150 individual insert configurations in the new VP5535 grade, including a variety of diamond shapes as well as square, triangle and trigon shapes, plus tolerance class and relief angle options. Chipbreaker geometries include six different ISO Negative double sided styles: F2, M3, M5 M8, R3 and R4; ISO Negative single-sided geometry R6; ISO Positive geometry PM2 (7° & 11° relief angle inserts); and a complementary Pos/Neg C5 design. The combination of VP5535 grade toughness and insert geometries and shapes establish a wide selection of chip control characteristics, impact resistance, feeds and speeds, depth of cut capacities and cutting actions to meet multitude of application requirements.

In addition to turning inserts for steels and stainless steels, the full selection of the ValTURN Turning System includes insert systems for cast irons, high temperature alloys, aluminum and non-ferrous alloys, and hardened part turning applications. Complementing the inserts are ValTURN ProGRIP(TM) toolholders that offer stability, accuracy and versatility in an easy-to-use format.

As with all Valenite products, the ValTURN Turning System components are supported through the company's ValPro1M Customer Service group for ordering, pricing and delivery scheduling, plus a technical staff offering continuously updated product and application data, and recommendations to optimize metal cutting productivity.

Valenite, headquartered in Madison Heights, Michigan with sales and service operations worldwide, is one of the largest suppliers of industrial cutting tools in the world.
