MHI Injection Molding Machinery's New em Series Delivers High Speed and Accuracy

Addison, IL - (April 10, 2003) The new em Series of hybrid machines from MHI Injection Molding Machinery, Inc. achieves reduced cycle times and increased accuracy.

Combining both electric and hydraulic features, the em Series effectively reduces cycle times. The em Series performs high-speed mold opening and closing at rates up to 1.3 times faster than MHI's conventional models.

Core actuation times are shorter due to an ample supply of hydraulic oil for the cores. A patent pending linked split nut drive results in simultaneous actuation, and reduced machining time. Efficiency is further improved with the use of Peakless Pressure Control (PLP). The PLP Control eliminates high-pressure spikes at the end of fill, during high-speed injection. The utilization of a UB Screw and uniform low temperature plasticizing performance results in reduced cooling time.

The em's incorporation of a 2-platen mechanism points to highly accurate mold clamping. Clamping force is applied at four points for equal application of mold clamping force. Even in unbalanced mold conditions, the mechanical structure of the clamp is not affected and a high degree of parallel accuracy is maintained. Mold clamping pressure can be controlled through a two-stage clamp system, with low- and high-pressure stages, for injection compression molding applications. A servo motor drive promotes accuracy during mold opening and closing.

The em's construction features add to its precision performance. Long platen supports resist tilting and ensure parallelism of the moving platen and the mold, while LM guides with low frictional characteristics protect high sensitivity molds. Durability and reliability test results confirm the rigidity of components. A ball screw load balance system (patent pending) has also been included to extend the life of the injection ball screws.

The em Series is equipped with Mitsubishi's latest control system - the MAC-VIII. This easy-to-use system features a large 12" LCD touch screen, an automatic mold thickness adjustment, Jet Purge and more.

The em Series is available in models ranging from 720 to 1200 tons.
