Injection Molder Takes Advantage of Advancements in Biodegradable Plastics

Truly Bio-degradable material now available.

Rex Plastics, a Washington based custom plastics injection molder, has begun offering biodegradable plastic in it's arsenal of available materials.

What most people don't know about many of the materials offered and sold as "bio-plastics" is that they are not biodegradable. They are only compost-able. If you simply throw these plastics into the waste system or outside, they will be around for a long time. Its only when they are subjected to the pressure, heat, and moisture of compost do they really decompose.

But there are new additives emerging that actually create gaps in the molecular structure of plastics when exposed to our landfills that allow the material to degrade in 1-5 years.

Rex Plastics has begun offering Eco-Pure, an additive developed by Bio-Tec Environmental which is FDA approved for contact with food, and considered non-hazardous by OSHA. Another reason Rex Plastics has selected Eco-Pure is that it can be added to virtually any resin, and does not change the physical properties of that plastic. Parts that may have stringent physical requirements can still be made with the advantage of being biodegradable.
