Infrastructure's Point Repair System Prevents Expensive Replacement of a Storm Interceptor Box
St Petersburg, Florida – Infrastructure Repair Systems, Inc. and Allen's Plumbing helped a customer avoid an expensive replacement of a storm water interceptor box.
A stormwater interceptor box is a containment system designed to slow the runoff of storm drains in parking lots. It collect oil and debris that may contaminate public waterways. Its containment system traps the oil and debris when the rain water carries them into the box. The water continues through, while the captured contaminants remain in a retention area until they can be periodically vacuumed up by a licensed contractor.
Allen's plumbing was called in to see if there was a way to repair an interceptor box rather than replace it. The box was at a busy main road adjacent to a large apartment complex located off of 54th street in St Petersburg, Florida. Allen's found that the interceptor box was sound but the pipes to and from the box had been damaged, causing the flow of water to be diverted.
Replacing the pipes would have been a major operation. The pipes ran directly under a busy roadway and digging them up would have caused a serious disruption in traffic and cost many thousands of dollars.
The solution was to repair the pipeline by using Infrastructure Repair Systems' patented, no-dig point repair system that requires no interruption of traffic.
The system creates a seamless lining within a pipe. The process involves selecting a liner, wetting it down with an epoxy formulation, wrapping the saturated liner around a carrier and securing it with patented straps and strings. The carrier is then inserted into the pipe and pulled to the center of the damaged area. The carrier is inflated, forcing the liner against the pipe wall where it conforms perfectly, and epoxy fills the breaks in the pipe. A flow-through ensures there is no interruption of service. In 2.5 to three hours the deflated bladder is pulled back through the pipeline, leaving the permanent lining in the damaged pipe.
