With the newer generation of diesel engines moving towards higher combustion temperatures, non-contact infrared temperature monitoring is becoming increasingly important. Infrared thermometers are used to measure the performance of radiators and coolers, monitor engine performance, and locate sources of overheating problems. "The ability to safely measure temperatures of heat generating equipment, such as diesel engines and exhaust components, is an essential part of preventative maintenance programs and a valuable tool for troubleshooting potential heat problems", notes Paul.
