General Tools & Instruments Co. the leading supplier of specialty hand tools and electronic test instruments for the Hardware, Woodworking, Machining, Plumbing, Electrical and HVAC/R industries announces the release of its new IRT206 "Heat Seekertm" Infra Red, Gun Style, Thermometer.

The IRT206 Heat Seeker is a precision measuring device used for obtaining accurate temperatures instantaneously without having to contact the object being measured. It works by capturing and measuring the invisible infrared energy naturally emitted from all objects. It offers an easy and safe method to instantaneously measure surface temperatures of objects which are difficult or unsafe to contact. The Heat Seeker has a rugged, ergonomic design and features a backlit LCD display with built-in laser sighting. The IRT206 has a measurement range is -4° to 605°F (0° to 318°C) and utilizes a switchable on/off laser pointer for target location. The practical distance-to-spot rationote 1 of 8:1 is suitable for most consumer and commercial applications.
The Heat Seeker is attractive to a myriad of users including: Home owners, Home inspectors, Electrical and HVAC/R Contractors and Technicians, Automotive Hobbyists and Technicians, and every DIY enthusiast. Primary consumer uses include: use as an energy audit device to help reduce your AC/Heating bill. Scan exterior walls and ceilings for insulation deficiencies, determine radiator heating efficiencies in closed hot water and steam heating systems, determine the temperature of the air, be it for heating or air conditioning, passing through the air vents of forced hot air heating systems, measure radiant floor temperatures to assess system efficiency and for locating radiant heating tubes when you need to drill, screw or nail into the floor. Other applications include determining the radiant temperature of fireplaces, stove, oven and grill temperatures, along with food temperatures in cooking and refrigeration.

There are many other applications for the Heat Seeker at home, at work and at play. Save energy and prevent electrical fires by detecting the temperature of an overloaded circuit breaker and in detecting over-loaded wiring. You can also check aquarium and terrarium temperatures, The Heat Seeker is widely used in automotive repair and maintenance for determining engine and HVAC system diagnostics and most interesting of all, when you go fishing you can find the best spot in the pond!

Note 1: A distance-to-spot ratio of 8:1 means that at an 8" distance the diameter of your measuring "spot" will be 1" and accordingly, at 8' the diameter of the measuring "spot" will be 1'. For better accuracy the "spot" needs to be kept within the object being measured.
