Infrared LEDs are available in SMD and through-hole packages.

Press Release Summary:

High-speed IR LEDs are available in HT-XXXIRP series, SMD family, and HE1-XXXAC series, through-hole devices, in 850 and 940 nm peak wavelengths. Both provide rise and fall response times of less than 20 ns and typical forward voltage of 1.5 V. Units feature emission angles, at half power, ranging from 20-100°. Assembled onto PCBs with standard equipment, they are offered in round-dome or flat-top and in top-, reverse-, and side-mount configurations.

Original Press Release:

Harvatek Corporation Announces the Addition of High-Speed Infrared (IR) Light-Emitting Diodes (LEDs) in Both Surface-Mount and Through-Hole Packages

Available in top-mount, reverse-mount and side-mount configurations, the eight surface-mount IR devices released today offer impressive levels of radiant power and intensity. The surface-mount emitters are perfect for applications such as presence detection, level detection and compact remote control units where space savings or a wider angle of intensity is critical. These packages are of industry standard footprint - 0603, 0805, 1206, PLCC and TO220 - and can be easily assembled onto printed circuit boards using standard automatic placement equipment.

For applications where maximum radiation power and intensity are preferred, the eight through-hole IR lamps released today by Harvatek can meet those needs. Available in both 3mm (T-1) and 5mm (T-1¾) lenses, in both round dome or flat top configurations, the IR lamp emitters features a wide range of emission angles (at half power) ranging from 20° to 100°. They are ideal for night vision, card readers, particle detection, wireless communications, optical counters and etc.

Both the surface-mount family and the through-hole family of IR emitters are available in both 850nm and 940nm peak wavelengths.

In particular, the HE1-XXXAC series (850nm through-hole family) and the HT-XXXIRP series (850nm SMD family) provide fast rise and fall response times of less than 20ns, allowing them to be used in industrial light-barrier application and infrared data transmission applications. Furthermore, a typical forward voltage of 1.5V offers the additional benefit of power savings, which is desirable in battery operated products.

All of Harvatek's products meet or exceed the requirements of the joint IPC/JEDEC standard J-STD-020B, as well as the European Union's Reduction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directive.
