Cal Sensors Launches Compact "IDA" Lead Selenide & Lead Sulfide Detectors with Integrated Electronics

Innovative technology provides enhanced performance and durability while reducing system costs

SANTA ROSA, CA - Cal Sensors announces the launch of IDA (Integrated Detector Assembly) lead selenide and lead sulfide high-sensitivity infrared detectors with integrated electronics enclosed within a compact, hermetically sealed TO-8 package. IDA detectors enhance measurement dynamic range, resulting in greater low signal detection capability, while reducing system costs and the overall sensor and peripheral electronics footprint by up to 50%. Covering the 1.0 to 5.5 µm infrared region, IDA detectors provide industry leading sensitivity of 1.5E10 Jones.

IDA detectors are ideally suited for a wide range of applications including industrial and medical gas analysis, auto and aviation emissions analysis, environmental monitoring, IR spectroscopy, thermal imaging and flame detection. The small package size and low power requirements also enable integration into portable analysis and measurement systems.

"IDA detectors represent a next generation IR detector technology," explains Brian Elias, Director of Engineering at Cal Sensors. "Previously lead selenide and lead sulfide detectors with this type of sensitivity required external electronic circuitry. The ability to integrate system electronics into the detector package provides users with both significant performance benefits and cost savings."

Housing the electronic drivers within the detector package enhances noise performance since the detector is as close as possible to the first stage of amplification. This enables greater low signal detection capability for sensing trace elements by improving dynamic range.

In addition, to cost and footprint savings, IDA infrared detectors offer a hermetically sealed package. Thus, sensitive optical and electronic components are protected, even in harsh industrial environments, enhancing long-term durability.

IDA lead selenide (2.8 x 1010 cm Hz1/2 w-1 peak D*) and lead sulfide (1.5 x 1011 cm Hz1/2 w-1 peak D*) detectors are available in both 1mm and 2mm square sizes. The detectors come with integrated electronics in an industry standard T0-8 package and are available with a lead time of six to eight weeks.

Comprehensive technical support for IDA detector technology is available for product design, installation, and operation.

Cal Sensors will officially announce the launch of the IDA infrared lead selenide and lead sulfide detectors at the PITTCON 2010 Conference & Expo held February 28th through March 5th in Orlando, Florida. At booth 2209 Cal Sensors is also displaying new a high-pulse speed PIREPlus emitter paired with a MIRA4, a four-color lead selenide (PbSe) sensor for industry-leading sensitivity.
