WOBURN, Mass. (February 19, 2004) - Thermo Electron Corporation (NYSE: TMO) announces the release of SampleManager 2004, a new generation of its flagship LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) now offering powerful Web capabilities such as XML (eXtensible Markup Language) processing and an advanced Web interface for dynamic data submission. Providing the foundation for a laboratory automation solution, SampleManager 2004 is the ideal choice for organizations seeking a proven, dependable LIMS to serve as a corporate standard for consistent performance and predictable deployments across the global enterprise.

SampleManager 2004 incorporates new Web services architecture that opens up core business logic to allow other applications and systems to access its functionality. Customers benefit from productivity gains and cost savings:

· No client installations - updating all users is as simple as updating the web server with no implementation or upgrade delays.

· Reduced costs for IT administration, training, and deployment.
· Streamlined access to data for increased efficiency and productivity.

The SampleManager solution also now offers new instrument integration capability that provides significant advantages to customers, including streamlined system administration and advanced functionality for the mapping and parsing of instrument output.
