BARCELONA, Spain, Oct. 2 / -- BEAWORLD 2007 -- BEA Systems, a world leader in enterprise infrastructure software, today announced the first service solutions in the industry for accelerating the adoption of Web 2.0 and enterprise solution computing technologies for IT and business. The new service solutions for BEA AquaLogic® Pages, BEA AquaLogic® Ensemble and BEA AquaLogic® Pathways are designed to help enterprises better understand their current maturity levels in Web 2.0 and enterprise social computing adoption, and recommend methodologies and technologies as part of their overall business and IT strategy.

According to a new study by the Yankee Group, "86 percent of corporate employees use at least one consumer-oriented tech tool that isn't supported by the IT department in the workplace, and the average employee uses four consumer technologies to enhance his or her personal or professional experience at work."(1) This is in spite of the fact that IT departments at many companies try to stop the use of unapproved tools at the office.

The new BEA service solutions planned include:
o The Collective Intelligence Quickstart: Guides customers in deploying
social search innovations such as tagging and dynamic usage ranking to
help users discover, organize and share information and expertise
through the power of social networks. This offering is designed to
complement new user-centric search and tagging tools, provided by BEA
AquaLogic® Pathways, to empower users to more readily find
information and people across their business.
o The Perimeter Security Quickstart: Helps enable customers to leverage
the power of BEA AquaLogic® Ensemble to secure Web resources across
the enterprise. BEA AquaLogic® Ensemble is designed to provide
perimeter security services to the universe of unmanaged Web
applications, helping customers achieve SSO-like functionality, as well
as usage tracking, audit logging and mashup capabilities for existing
applications and new composite applications.
o BEA Social Computing Quickstart: Helps enable customers to rapidly
deploy BEA AquaLogic® Pages and BEA AquaLogic® Pathways to deliver
a flexible, user-driven framework for collaboration and information
sharing. This offering is targeted at existing BEA AquaLogic® User
Interaction and BEA WebLogic Portal® customers who want to provide
content and expert tagging, blogs, wikis and social networking tools as
part of their portal deployments.

Released in July 2007, BEA's enterprise social computing suite, comprised of BEA AquaLogic® Pages, BEA AquaLogic® Ensemble and BEA AquaLogic® Pathways, have received industry and customer recognition for delivering innovative Web 2.0 and social computing capabilities to the enterprise to drive greater end-user participation in the workplace while maintaining strong governance and control for IT.

"There is broad interest in using Web 2.0 and social computing concepts, such as leveraging Ajax or alternative rich Internet application technologies to provide richer user experiences. Enterprises are adopting capabilities, inspired by the consumer Internet, that improve productivity. These include enabling end user mashup generation, communal tagging and social networking," said David Gootzit, research director at Gartner.

"People have focused on user-oriented tools such as wikis, blogs, tagging, and simple mashup platforms -- but not on the tough questions about architecting participant-driven applications and the implications to existing IT infrastructure around governance, data management and development lifecycles. At BEA we are providing businesses the tools they can use for social computing, but in a way that is designed to provide enterprise-grade management and governance," said Jay Simons, vice president of marketing at BEA Systems. "The combination of Web 2.0 and SOA in the enterprise can help IT to keep up with the dynamic needs of the business by supporting the creation of cost-effective applications within a framework owned by IT. By using enterprise social computing tools integrated with an SOA, knowledge workers can tap into many of the service-enabled enterprise data sources and processes for their information-intensive work requirements."

BEA's enterprise social computing products are designed to deliver the next wave of knowledge worker productivity -- vital for increased business efficiency, growth and innovation. The three products are:

o BEA AquaLogic® Ensemble: infrastructure software designed for
developers and IT operations to create and manage enterprise mashup
applications, regardless of development platform and hosting
environment;
o BEA AquaLogic® Pages: a Web-based system that can help empower end-
user participants to create simple web applications and surface
enterprise data to the web to support day-to-day business situations,
dramatically improving knowledge worker productivity;
o BEA AquaLogic® Pathways: a collaborative information discovery and
expert identification tool that combines social bookmarking and tagging
with search and activity analytics. BEA AquaLogic® Pathways can help
users discover and share information and expertise through the power of
social networks.
