Elgin® Pelican® Offers New Industrial Sweeping Technology

ELGIN, Ill. (May 17, 2005) - Elgin Sweeper, a subsidiary of Federal Signal Corporation, now offers the Industrial Pelican sweeper with dry dust control. The Industrial Pelican features a newly patented system that doesn't require water for sweeping, making it Elgin's first sweeper designed for use around industrial plants.

The Industrial Pelican's dust-control system has form-fitting skirts around the brooms to eliminate dust. The dust-separation system also features a torturous dust path, twin fans and a pleated, synthetic filter with in-cab, push-button cleaning. This system provides superior dust separation in the hopper, which reduces filter loading and increases efficiency. The Pelican's "waterless" technology also allows for operating in below-freezing temperatures. It provides efficient cleaning of bulky debris, dusty powder-like materials and heavy surface deposits.

The Pelican's classic three-wheel, rear-steer design allows excellent maneuverability, even in confined spaces. The flexible side skirts and protruding side brooms make sweeping next to fixed objects easy. Sweeping roads and alleys around buildings is quick with the Pelican's ground speed of up to 20 mph.

An optional vacuum hose extends cleaning power into hard-to-reach places usually cleaned by hand. Shallow pits can also be cleaned by adding a simple accessory to the hose. All together, the Industrial Pelican's features make it a viable alternative to other types of sweepers commonly used around industrial facilities.
