Ethernet Connectivity Now Built Into Industrial Scanner

August, 2003 - Renton, Wash.: Microscan's industrial long range scanner, the MS-880 now offers built in Ethernet connectivity. Manufacturers no longer need to use separate protocol boxes or extra accessories to integrate a bar code scanner into the factory floor.

The MS-880 is now one of few industrial scanners on the market to offer built in Ethernet connectivity. "The MS-880 already provides the user with a lot of flexibility, featuring several programmable features such as a ninety inch read range and sweeping raster," commented David Bodmer, product marketing manager for Microscan Systems, Inc. "Now, with built in Ethernet connectivity, the MS-880 is even easier to integrate into manufacturing lines."

Ethernet connectivity will provide integrators with several key advantages: First, the MS-880 can be directly connected to the integrator's network, allowing any computer on the network to control the data coming in and out of the scanner. Secondly, the Ethernet solution is built into the MS-880, eliminating the need for extra boxes or cables. Finally, because of its web-based interface, the MS-880's Ethernet connection is easy to setup and configure.

The setup process can be completed in four simple steps. First, install the Ethernet card inside the MS-880's wiring box. Next, assign the Ethernet card an IP address and install the driver. Once this is completed, the MS-880 can be managed through Microscan's Easy Setup Program (ESP). The entire process takes only a few minutes.

Other key features include universal IP address assignment, easy configuration through a web browser interface, and an auto-sensing 10/100 base- T network interface. In addition to the Ethernet card, the kit also includes a protective shield, product tools CD, and a quick start guide.
