Schneider Electric Expands Industrial PC Family with Thin Client And Compact Models

PALATINE, Ill. - Dec. 9 , 2004 - Schneider Electric, one of the world's leading manufacturers of operator interface products, has expanded its family of Telemecanique® industrial PCs with the introduction of the Magelis® Smart iPC, a thin client for Ethernet architectures, and the Magelis Compact iPC, which is designed for embedding in compact machines or enclosures. The new industrial PCs are aimed at OEMs and industrial users who want leading-edge PC and touch screen technology in an extremely compact footprint.

At just 100mm deep, the Compact iPC is ideal for machine builders who want a high-quality graphic interface with maximum ease of installation and integration. It meets a market need for quality and performance at an optimum price. In addition to a basic entry-level model, loaded only with Windows 2000, the Compact iPC can be bundled with Telemecanique Vijeo Look(TM) SCADA software to create a ready-to-use, all-in-one HMI solution.

The Smart iPC is one of the slimmest thin client displays on the market at a very compact 67mm depth and height. All the components required for Ethernet architectures are pre-installed at the factory. This Transparent Ready(TM) web-based display provides real-time data visualization using a web browser and can be bundled with FactoryCast(TM) applets for real time data monitoring. Windows XPe assures access to all CE-based graphics as well as HTML files and Java applets.

Together with the Modular Magelis iPC, which was designed for control and HMI applications with complex adaptation requirements, the Magelis iPC family meets a wide range of application architecture requirements, from entry level to high end. Both new products conform to UL508, CSA, and CE, and are rated Class 1, Div. 2 for use in hazardous environments.

Common to both new products is an onboard 10 Base T/100 Base TX Mbps Ethernet port. Both products feature PCMCIA and USB expansion slots; the Compact iPC also offers a PCI slot. These slots can be used to set up several simultaneous network connections or to add additional devices.

The front panels are characterized by the quality of their backlit active matrix TFT LCD screens, which offer excellent brightness and contrast and a wide (160˚) viewing angle for easy viewing in difficult lighting conditions. Other features include dust and damp proof membranes conforming to IP 65, stainless steel housing with aluminum alloy front panel and external mouse/keyboard port.
