Advantech Launches 5-Port Gigabit Industrial Ethernet Switch

The EKI-2725 is a 5-port gigabit industrial Ethernet switch starting at $275.

(Cincinnati, Ohio - 8/21/2007) - The eAutomation Group of Advantech introduces the EKI-2725 5-port unmanaged industrial Ethernet switch featuring full gigabit capacity for bandwidth intensive applications. With the growth of Ethernet in industrial applications, and the expanded use of gigabit cameras in machine vision and security applications, gigabit switches provide the capacity needed for increased network traffic. The EKI-2725 is equipped with five 1000Base-T gigabit Ethernet ports and supports 9K Jumbo Frames, which allows larger blocks of data to be sent with each transmission, for increased network throughput and reduced CPU utilization of connected devices.

Designed for the harsh environment of industrial applications, the EKI-2725 is packed in a compact metal DIN-rail mount chassis built to withstand shock and vibration. The EKI-2725 features 4,000 Vdc Ethernet ESD protection, power line surge (EFT) protection of 3,000 Vdc, and an operating temperature of -10 to 60° C.

The EKI-2725 includes dual 12 to 48 Vdc power inputs for redundant power configurations to ensure system uptime. In the event of a problem with external power, a built-in fault relay is available to signal an external programmable logic controller (PLC) or controller.

For ease of maintenance, each Ethernet port is equipped with two front-facing LED indicators that provide link status, transmission speed, and activity status to aid in diagnosing issues with cables and attached devices. Also, with auto-MDI/MDI-X, there is no nee to use crossover cables for inter-switch connections and auto-negotiation provides optimum link configurations and compatibility with older 10/100Base-TX Ethernet devices.

ARC Advisory Group Senior Analyst Harry Forbes comments, "The industrial design of the EKI-2725 and its launch at this time shows that Advantech is moving from a 'niche supplier' to a mainstream suppler of industrial Ethernet infrastructure. ARC believes this market will experience sustained double-digit increases and will grow to become a billion dollar market by 2011. Advantech's growing industrial Ethernet product line is further evidence for this trend".

The EKI-2725 is ideal for bandwidth for intensive applications where rugged, reliable, and maintenance free operation is essential. The EKI-2725 is available for purchase directly from Advantech at 1-800-205-7940 or from an Advantech authorized dealer.
