Industrial Ethernet Switch is dust and watertight.

Press Release Summary:

DIOSWITCH Ethernet switch, available in rugged IP67 version, is mountable directly on machine or metal housing can be snapped onto DIN rail. Power supply and 8 ports are wired up via M12 connectors. Switch works on power supplies of 19.2-30 V, and operating temperature range is -25°C to +70°C. Polarity-protected, all ports work with 10/100 Mbit and auto-negotiation, and several switches can be cascaded.

Original Press Release:

Rugged Ethernet Switch for Harsh Industrial Environments

Charlotte, NC--Ethernet-based data transfer is today increasingly the preferred choice for plant design in general. Suitable industry-standard components are available and allow quick installation as well as reliable and maintenance-free operation, even under the most extreme environmental conditions. There are, for example, rugged Ethernet switches for connecting between the individual network nodes; these are suitable for direct mounting on the machine thanks to a high level of protection and connectors that are specifically designed for use in the field. There is hardly any price difference between the switches and hubs; however in contrast to the latter, the switches establish a direct connection between the individual nodes and prevent data collisions, so enabling a deterministic behaviour of the Ethernet network.

Lutze, Inc., now also offers the tried-and-tested DIOSWITCH in a rugged IP67 version, meaning that the new Ethernet switch is totally dust- and watertight. It can therefore be mounted directly on the machine, even in harsh industrial environments, without needing to be placed in a protective control cabinet. The robust metal housing can also be snapped onto a DIN rail. The connector technology is designed for field use and meets the recommendations of the IAONA (Industrial Automation Open Networking Alliance). The power supply and the eight ports are wired up via M12 connectors. A choice of suitable connectors and cables are likewise available from the manufacturer. The switch works on power supplies of between 19.2 and 30 V; operating temperatures should be in the range of -25 °C and 70 °C.

Operating the units is easy and practical. Features such as Autocrossing and Autopolarity simplify installation. If a port is inadvertently connected with a crosslink cable, then the switch automatically swaps the twisted pair. It is also polarity-protected. All ports work with 10/100 Mbit and Auto-negotiation, i.e. the switch automatically sets itself to the best possible speed as well as the duplex mode. Several switches can be cascaded. For each port, LEDs display the link status, speed and half- or full-duplex operation, making troubleshooting and diagnostics much simpler. The switch operates on the "Store and Forward Switching" principle and supports standard features such as "Address ageing" und "Broadcast storm protection". Furthermore it is suitable for the use of VLANs.
