PEP Introduces Mobile Pentium(R) MMX Real-Time Soft PLC For Industrial Control And Scade-Based Applications

Pittsburgh, PA, October 2001 -- PEP Modular Computers, a leading manufacturer of 3U and 6U low power, high performance CompactPCI and VME single-board computers (SBCs) and systems, has introduced the VisionCompact® IA (VCIA), a compact passively-cooled industrial PC ideally suited for real-time control of industrial processing applications.

The VCIA features Intel's low power Mobile Pentium® MMX (Tillamook) processor, operating at 266 MHz, permitting fan-free operation from 0 to 50°C. The new computer is the latest addition to PEP's VisionCompact® series of all-in-one industrial computing solutions, and the first to feature passive cooling. Optional Vision Control software provides a PC automation package providing HMI, traditional PLC control as well as direct connection to sensors/actuators and fieldbus protocols. The VCIA is equipped with up to 256MB SO-DIMM SDRAM, as well as an integrated NMI timer for deterministic real-time applications. Also new on the VCIA is the inclusion of four serial ports (RS-232) as standard equipment; as an option, COM3-4 ports can be opto-coupled as RS422/485. The VCIA incorporates on a single board LAN and fieldbus connectivity, in addition to an Ethernet controller (100Base-Tx or 10Base-T). All interfaces are available through 1800 front connectors, to permit easy access in harsh or space-limited industrial environments.

The new VCIA includes 1280x1024 graphic capability with 2MB VRAM and support for CRT and LCD. The VCIA is enclosed in an industrial DIN-rail mountable, EMI-proof housing (EN 55022, 50081-1/2).

Pricing for a VCIA with a Low Power Pentium MMX 226 MHz CPU, 256MB SDRAM, 2MB VRAM, and an Ethernet 10OBaseTx starts at $1240. The VCIA is available immediately and is OS Compatible and supported by VxWorks, RT-Linux and Windows 98/NT2000.
