Original Press Release:

Industrial Automation Software Suite Boasts Powerful New Features for OptoControl(TM), OptoDisplay(TM), and OptoConnect(TM)

Temecula, CA - February 10, 2005 - Opto 22, a developer and manufacturer of I/O and control systems for data acquisition, machine automation, and process control applications, has announced the release of Opto 22 FactoryFloor(tm) 4.1, the latest version of the award-winning industrial automation software suite.

The new FactoryFloor 4.1 software is designed for use with Opto 22's widely deployed line of powerful process automation controllers, typically combined with the company's SNAP Ethernet I/O(tm) and SNAP Serial I/O products. Using FactoryFloor 4.1, users can develop powerful and diverse control programs, easily design human-machine interfaces, expand their control systems' connectivity to enterprise databases, and complete control and data acquisition projects faster, cheaper, and more easily than ever before.

Priced at an industry low $349 USD, Opto 22's FactoryFloor 4.1 software is comprised of four powerful, integrated components: OptoControl, OptoDisplay, OptoServer, and OptoConnect. OptoControl is an intuitive, flowchart-based programming environment that allows users to develop control and data acquisition applications quickly and easily. An advanced scripting tool provides an additional way to program and an easy method of creating math expressions, defining control loops, performing conditional branching, and manipulating strings. OptoDisplay is a graphical HMI package for designing human-machine interfaces used for alarming, trending and other purposes. OptoServer provides OPC 1.0 and DDE connectivity between Opto 22 systems and Microsoft Windows-based computers. OptoConnect creates a bi-directional data transfer link between the Opto 22 controller and Microsoft's SQL Server or Access databases.

Also included in FactoryFloor 4.1 are assorted OptoUtilities including OptoTerm, which assists users in downloading and executing control strategies, and OptoSniff for troubleshooting communications. Support for several new Opto 22 hardware products has been added to the OptoControl component of FactoryFloor 4.1, including SNAP Simple I/O brains, the SNAP-AIPM power monitoring module, the SNAP pH/ORP module, and the SNAP-AIMA-iSRC analog input module. Other new features for OptoControl include clamping, which, once set and activated, keeps prescribed out-of-range signals from being sent to an analog output point, and the ability to create a controller download file, which makes it easy to download a compiled strategy for a specific controller. Also, to reduce the time required to download a strategy, download compression has been added.

The new OptoDisplay component includes important new security and auditing features for controlling and logging operator HMI use. These, plus other enhancements, can prove useful for organizations seeking to comply with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's 21 CFR Part 11 requirements.

OptoConnect has been updated to support Microsoft's SQL Server 2000 and Access databases.

Among the OptoUtilities, OptoTerm, designed primarily for OEMs and system integrators, has several key new features such as the ability to download a complete strategy from a single controller download file (CDF), and the ability to start and stop a strategy in the "Inspect" and "Status" windows.

Opto 22's FactoryFloor software suite has never required hardware keys and is priced at $349 USD. It is available for download from the Opto 22 Web site and through a global network of authorized distributors and resellers.
