New Indexable Reamer Style Satisfies Broad Range of Applications

Valenite LLC has launched its new MODCO® 'PI' style series of reamers...the latest among its numerous newly engineered tooling solutions. The PI or Padded / Indexable style reamers provide high precision hole sizing with excellent surface finishes, while a wide selection of blade types and sizes, along with three top rakes and three entry angles plus a variety of diameters and lengths for both general duty uses and short range reaming applications make the PI style reamers the ideal tooling for a broad spectrum of workpiece materials, hole sizes and finishes.

MODCO PI reamers are modular in construction yet are custom configured to meet application specifics, and can finish holes from 5,9 to 60,50 mm for through hole work, and from 7,875 to 60,50 mm for blind hole applications. The rugged reamer construction allows for lengths of up to 10X the diameter for processing deep holes, and its precision engineering is capable of delivering an H6 tolerance grade and surface finishes as low as Ra 0,25 are obtainable. The padded configuration helps to keep the tool running true while the indexable blade feature makes operations economical.

The MODCO-design PI reamers feature a unique clamping configuration that keeps the locking screws out of the chip slot that might otherwise restrict chip evacuation, thus minimizing the risks of marring work surfaces or damaging the tool. Similarly, a simple but accurate adjustment mechanism allows users to achieve fast presetting precision.

Among the cutting blade grades available are Valenite's ValPro(TM) micrograin carbides including the uncoated VP-1R20 with up sharp cutting edge ideal for aluminum and non-ferrous work along with titanium alloys; a versatile PVD TiN coated VP-5R15 for steel and stainless steels, iron and all nickel/cobalt/iron based super alloys; and a VP-1R10 PVD TiCN for optimum tool life in cast iron and non-ferrous work. The VP-6R05 is a wear resistant cermet grade for extended performance with steels. Both PCD and PCBN blades for exotic alloys and hard part machining applications are optional selections. The blades can be ordered with a LA 1 entry angle for general-purpose work, a LA 2 short lead angle, or a LA 3 angle for high surface finish requirements. Three rakes geometries of 0°, 6° and 12° augment the blade selection options.

Shank options include cylindrical and flatted designs, with four diameters ranging from 10 to 25 mm and all feature through-coolant porting. Lengths range from 115 mm to 226 mm in the general use reamers, and from 95 mm to 166 mm for the short working styles. Shanks are suitable for use with adjustable and floating style holders on lathe applications, and with either floating holders, hydraulic adapters, precision collet style adapter or shrinker style holders for rotary applications. Components such as blades, clamps and clamp screws, support balls and adjusting screw are stocked for immediate shipments and simple body designs have short lead-time delivery.
