Increased Fuel Flexibility of Siemens SGT-800 Gas Turbine Will Enable Wider Range of Applications in the Oil & Gas Business
100th turbine sold to Russia
Siemens Energy´s SGT-800 industrial gas turbine can now be operated on a wider range of fuels. The Dry Low Emissions (DLE) combustion system of the SGT-800 is already acclaimed in that it can achieve very low NOx and CO emissions in dual fuel applications without having to resort to steam or water injection, and without complex control systems. It has now been shown that the SGT-800 DLE system can operate with heavy hydrocarbons as well as on diluted natural gas with up to 50% nitrogen content while still maintaining impressive low emission levels. Siemens believes that these fuel flexibility initiatives will help increase its competitiveness in even more applications in the oil & gas business, e.g. in LNG regasification plants. In addition, the 100th unit of this proven turbine has recently been sold to a refinery in Russia where a critical project requirement for the gas turbines being supplied has been their capability to operate on various fuels.
The SGT-800 stands out with its first-class efficiency, high availability and reliability, and low life cycle costs. NOx and CO emissions are minimized thanks to its Dry Low Emissions (DLE) combustion system, which is now capable of achieving low emissions on an even wider variety of fuels. Testing has now revealed that the DLE system can withstand large amounts of heavy hydrocarbons. Moreover, tests with increased amounts of nitrogen were conducted on DLE system - The results verifying that the Wobbe index range for diluted natural gases has now been expanded to 22-53 MJ/Nm³. The DLE system maintained its world class emissions levels in both test instances.
The 100th gas turbine was sold to the Russian oil company, Rosneft who has now ordered 13 SGT-800 gas turbines from Siemens. The latest order with six SGT-800s is for the Tuapse refinery located on shore of the Black Sea. A critical project requirement for the gas turbines being supplied has been their capability to operate on various fuels. With this order, Siemens has now sold 29 SGT-800s in Russia alone. With increasing sales to this region, Eastern Europe and Asia have become two of the most successful markets for the SGT-800.
The SGT-800 gas turbine is robust and simple, designed for high reliability and low emissions while delivering high efficiency in both combined cycle and in simple cycle applications.
