In-Vehicle Panel PC with 3.5G Comms and GPS

The iKarPC from BVM Mobile, the new operating division of The BVM Group, the long-established specialist hardware development company, combines powerful computing capability, extensive vehicle monitoring, 3.5G mobile internet, GPS, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and mobile entertainment in a self-contained 8 inch PanelPC running Windows XP Embedded.

Powered from a 9 - 30VDC vehicle battery, either hard-wired or from a cigar lighter socket, the units have cranking delay, ignition control and switch off timers. The 8-inch TFT-LCD screen is sunlight readable with a five-wire resistive touchscreen facility. Running on the Intel US15WP chipset, with an Atom Z510 processor addressing 1 GB of DRAM, the unit has a SD card slot supporting up to 4 GB Flash cards for mass storage, a USB 2.0 and a Gigabit Ethernet port. It supports wireless LAN conforming to the 802.11 b and g, specifications, giving 11 and 54 Mbits/s, Bluetooth V2.0+ at 3.0 Mbits/s and 3.5G WCDMA and HSUPA WAN capability with up to 5.7 Mbits/s bandwidth mobile internet capability. The interface with the vehicle management systems is based on the CAN bus 2.0b specification, with embedded conversion of the popular OBD-II, J1939 and FMS protocols.

The Fleet Management application, which includes the back office server facilities, is ideal for both long haul and short drop fleet operators, enabling them to monitor up to 79 vehicle variables, locate and track the vehicle, plan routes and manage job data. The driver is provided with GPS mapping, job information and feedback on vehicle parameters to maximise his efficiency and reduce fuel consumption. When parked for rest periods or overnight, the iKarPC gives him access to multiple TV channels through the European DVB-T embedded capability.

To complete the package BVM is able to offer a variety of airtime packages on any of the major networks providing the best fit for the data-only connection and with management tools to help keep track of the installed base of SIM cards.

Physical mounting is through a VESA 75 Mount or the unit can be installed using a variety of vehicle mounting kits. External antenna for 3.5G and TV are available as accessories and where needed an external GPS antenna can be added to replace the built in unit. Video conferencing is supported with an embedded camera, audio line in and line out sockets and a built-in speaker.
