Southampton, Pa. - While many nylon-12 tubing suppliers have been faced with sourcing raw materials during a recent worldwide shortage, NewAge Industries worked diligently with its partners to obtain materials and finished tubing. The company has an ample supply of nylon-12 tubing at a time when other businesses are still scrambling to source and manufacture the product.
The shortage of nylon-12 tubing came about because of several issues. First, a good number of nylons, including nylon-12, are petroleum-based. Oil supplies, demand, and prices have been volatile in recent years, and many types of plastic have been impacted. In addition to nylon, raw material costs for PVC, polyethylene, and fluoropolymer have seen increases, and in some cases, shortages.
Second, the solar energy market took its toll on supply levels. Nylon is a solar panel component, although usage has now tapered off. Third, nylon-12 is a commonly used material for fiber optic cable jacketing, and expansive cabling projects have affected supplies.
While some of these crises have lessened, many tubing suppliers continue to have difficulty with raw material procurement.
"We've been working on this situation in earnest for months," noted Catherine Wallace, NewAge Industries' Director of Purchasing. "There are a limited number of nylon-12 manufacturers, and demand simply outpaced supply."
