In-Cylinder Position Sensor suits hydraulic/pneumatic actuators.

Press Release Summary:

Available in internal- and external-flange versions, model TDP-100 uses high-resistivity, conductive plastic bonded to precision wire-wound element. It provides absolute analog output and 0.15% linearity and mounts within pressurized cylinders to 7,200 psi. Providing more than 50 million cycles at 25 mm stroke length and 250 mm/sec speed, sensor is available in travels of 25 to 200 mm in 5 mm increments and 210 to 1,100 mm in 10 mm increments.

New Hybrid-Technology In-Cylinder Sensor Makes High-Accuracy Positioning of Hydraulic and Pneumatic Actuators Affordable, Reliable

Flexible sensor pairs conductive-plastic and wire-wound resistive technologies to provide OEMs long-lived, virtually infinite-resolution positioning at a low cost

July 2002 - The TDP-100 in-cylinder position sensor from Transducers Direct combines low price, virtually infinite resolution and wear-resistant hybrid-track technology to provide OEM designers with a lower-cost alternative to non-contact position feedback devices for hydraulic and pneumatic actuators. "Not your father's potentiometer," the TDP-100 sensor uses high-resistivity conductive plastic bonded to a precision wire-wound element to provide maximum sensor life and reliability - and even outlast the actuator within which it is installed. The sensor provides an absolute analog output and 0.15% linearity with no additional electronics required for high-accuracy positioning off-highway vehicles, material handling, steel-rolling, amusement rides, timber processing and rock crushing/sifting equipment.

The easy-install TDP-100 eliminates use of damage-prone external sensors by mounting safely within pressurized cylinders to 7200 psi (500 Bar) that use mineral-oil-based fluid. The new-design sensor has been tested to provide more than 50 million cycles at 25mm stroke length and 250mm/s speed. The sensor can be ordered in travels of 25mm to 200mm in 5mm increments, and 210 to 1100mm in 10mm increments for use on a wide variety of actuator sizes. It is designed to work in temperatures from -30 to +100C.

The TDP-100 sensor is available in internal- and external-flange versions. The internal-flange version is ideal for clevis-style actuators, enabling the flange to be completely encapsulated within the cylinder bulkhead. The external-flange model is best suited for tie-rod-style actuators, and features industry-standard 3/4" x 16-UNF 2A or M20 x 1.5-6g threads, with custom sizes available. Both use integrally molded PUR-jacketed three-core cabling which provides excellent strain relief, chemical resistance and secure sealing. Optional in-line connector versions are also available.

The sensor's contact slider can be removed from the sensor to simplify installation inside the actuator. Sliders have precious-metal wipers and come in versions designed to work specifically with hydraulic or pneumatic actuators.

Custom-sized TDP-100 in-cylinder position sensors are available for shipping from Transducers Direct usually in less than 7 days. List price starts at $275.00. Smaller-diameter units are also available for cylinders down to 1" stroke length.
