ImageVision Security Control Room Furniture Helps Delta Airlines Win the War on Lost Bags

Delta goes from next-to-last in lost baggage to best-in-class

La Grange, TX – ImageVision, Inc. is pleased to announce the completion of their latest security control room furniture project with Delta Airlines. ImageVision's AgileVIEW control consoles are currently deployed in Delta's baggage handling surveillance centers to help operators monitor baggage movement and whereabouts with greater success.

Since 2005, ImageVision has shipped more than 25 AgileVIEW units to Delta at Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International, the world's busiest airport, and to John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City. The installations are part of Delta's $100 million plan to upgrade its baggage handling systems and processes to reduce the amount of checked baggage it loses.

In 2007, baggage handling was a huge cost center for Delta. They were next-to-last in lost baggage performance, and their reputation among consumers echoed this reality.

In the past, for example, Delta's automated baggage-handling capabilities in Atlanta were limited to conveyors under passenger check-in gates in the main terminal. Once sorted, all of that baggage had to be carted to five different terminals, a process that contributed to an excess of lost luggage and missed connections.

"It was brutally manual," said Bill Lentsch, Delta's Sr. VP of Airport Customer Service.

As a result of this, Delta gutted the entire infrastructure under Terminal B at Hartsfield and connected the five terminals with automated baggage systems.

After implementing new equipment and new security processes over the past eight years, Delta is now best-in-class among major airlines according to this article in the Wall Street Journal. They've cut their rate of mishandled bags by 71% since 2007.

"We've worked with Delta and their baggage systems suppliers on these projects for over 10 years," said ImageVision CEO Dave Renfro. "Our modular product design provided the flexibility Delta needed to easily modify any existing furniture with options such as cabinet extensions and additional monitor support tiers to accommodate their expanding baggage systems requirements."

Outside of baggage handling, Renfro said that AgileVIEW consoles are also commonly deployed in air traffic control rooms and security operations centers in airports across the country.

"AgileVIEW's ergonomic features and configurability for an array of specialized displays and controls makes them a good fit in a broad spectrum of aerospace applications."
