New Sensors Reduce X-Ray Dosage for Medical Procedures Increasing Patient Safety

DALSA introduces Full-Frame CCD Sensor family at RSNA Show

WATERLOO, ONTARIO - November 12, 2007 - DALSA Corporation [TSX: DSA] today announced the release of its new family of 12um AT CCD image sensors. This range of full-frame CCD sensors offers improved quantum efficiency (QE) and sensitivity, as well as superior signal-to-noise and high-speed performance. In addition to the launch of a 12 megapixel image sensor, successors to the present range of 4 and 6 megapixels will also be introduced.

Taking full advantage of DALSA's advanced CCD manufacturing processes, all members of the new monochrome CCD-sensor family feature a 12 micron pixel with very high light sensitivity. By optimizing the optical transmission efficiency of the entire sensor architecture and all manufacturing processes, these new sensors ensure that developers get the most out of every signal that needs to be detected.

"The increased sensitivity of DALSA's new CCD sensors leads to improved detection at lower light levels, which has practical benefits such as reducing X-Ray dosage for patient safety during medical examinations", said Yves Kessener, DALSA product manager.

Leading-edge imaging applications such as medical diagnostics, scientific imaging and astronomy will benefit from the high sensitivity in combination with the low dark current performance, high-speed amplifier design and the unparalleled linear dynamic range of the sensors.

New CCD Sensor Family
Depending on the specific requirements of your application, the 12 megapixel FTF3041M and the 6 megapixel FTF3021M full-frame CCD-sensors offer a unique choice between two high-speed dual-output registers employing different output amplifiers, to achieve either a high signal conversion gain or maximum full-well capacity for ultimate signal-to-noise ratio during long exposure times.

The 4 megapixel FTF2021M, full-frame sensor features four identical outputs, one at each corner of the image area supporting single, dual or even quad parallel output to support full resolution image capture at video speeds.

Key Features and Benefits
o High sensitivity: X-ray dose reduction during medical diagnostics resulting in patient comfort and safety; increased signal fidelity under similar exposure conditions.
o High speed read-out: realize higher frame rates while recording dynamic processes.
o Low noise amplifiers: improved signal-to-noise ratio to detect signals that would otherwise be lost in the noise.
o Ceramic package: robust and hermetically sealed allowing high reliability and stable operation during use.

DALSA's new sensors are now available and will be showcased at the RSNA Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) show, November 25-30, Chicago IL, in the North Building - Hall B - Booth 8734.
