Whitehouse Scientific Launches ShapeSizer(TM) Image Analyser

Chester, UK: Whitehouse Scientific has introduced for sale a new version of the company's ShapeSizer(TM) Image Analyser, which was used in certifying the last BCR reference standards, and the system upon which they themselves are standardised.

Introduced at Particulate Systems Analysis 2011 (PSA 2011; 5-7 Sep, Edinburgh, Scotland), the new ShapeSizer(TM) has a state of the art CCD camera, high performance computer and sophisticated software. This makes it an attractive cost-effective solution for a wide variety of industrial particulate applications where both size and shape are critical parameters.

"For some time people visiting our labs have seen the ShapeSizer(TM) and have asked if we can make it more widely available as a product," said Whitehouse Scientific CEO, Graham Rideal.

"Up until now the analyser has been sold predominantly into the industrial diamond industry but I'm delighted that we can now supply complete systems for a wide range of applications. We believe that the ShapeSizer(TM) is one of the most cost-effective and reliable particle metrology tools on the market. It has highly user friendly image analysis software and is proving to be an excellent technique of particle characterisation for particles in the size range 1 - 5000 µm".

Key features of the ShapeSizer(TM) include:

o High speed, high resolution frame grabbing

o automatic cluster recognition and elimination

o Particle separation and editing facility

o a unique pixel correction for X/Y distortion in the CCD camera

o a Miles-Lantuejoul option to maximise field of view without eliminating particles

o a comprehensive graphical and tabular display of size and shape parameters

o a sieve calibration option

o certificate generation for validation processes

About Whitehouse Scientific

Whitehouse Scientific is a leading producer of glass microspheres for calibration and is the highest ranking European certification laboratory for primary methods of particle size analysis. The company's standards cover all particle sizing techniques including laser diffraction, Coulter methods, optical sizing, sieve calibration and image analysis. Most of these reference materials are NIST-traceable. They range in size from 0.1 micron to 5.0 millimetres and are available as single sizes or broad distribution standards. In addition, Whitehouse offers a unique calibration procedure for NIST-traceable measurement of filter apertures between 3 and 1000 microns, and also produces general purpose research grade microspheres.

Whitehouse Scientific has been producing calibration microspheres for more than 25 years. Founder and managing director Dr Graham Rideal is a past chairman of The Filtration Society, and is now active as its Science Correspondent. He is a member of the 'Editorial Advisory Board' for Filtration News Magazine, USA.www.whitehousescientific.com
