NKK Switches Announces Unique, Contactless Illuminated Pushbuttons
Scottsdale, Ariz. (August 18, 2003) - Leading the industry in design technology and creativity, NKK Switches today introduced the FP01 Series of contactless illuminated pushbuttons. The FP01 pushbuttons equip design engineers with a switching component suitable for demanding industrial and medical applications that require a robust and dependable solution.
The FP01 contactless illuminated pushbuttons use a photo interrupter, instead of traditional contacts, to ensure high reliability and a long life of 3 million operations minimum. The cutting edge design, in addition to the FP01's rugged actuator construction assemblies, makes these devices highly suitable for many industries, including gaming and vending machine applications. Engineers faced with designing front panels for equipment exposed to corrosive gases and similarly harsh environments also have a large array of configurations from which to choose.
The rugged construction, coupled with an extremely smooth actuation, allows repetitive and rapid actuation force anywhere on the FP01's actuator surface, making the FP01 series ideal for high usage applications.
The FP01 photo diode activated pushbuttons feature Bright LED's and brilliant colored actuators. Engineers can configure this series for both highly visible status indication, by specifying LED's with matching colored actuators in red, green and amber for a dazzling appearance, or they can achieve a subdued illumination for low light requirements by specifying a white actuator over the red, green or amber LED's. The LED's are an integral part of the switch and not sold separately. The housing of the FP01 is black.

They feature a 6-pin socket, and in addition, design engineers can specify plug options including assembled connector plugs with wire leads, or unassembled plugs and pins. The FP01 features a behind panel depth of only .843" (21.4mm). The diameter of the cap in housing is 1.024" (26mm), providing ample actuating surface. Panel cutout is .902" (22.9mm) and the recommended panel thickness range is .098"~ .197" (2.5mm ~ 5.0mm). Operating temperature range is -25°C through +50°C (-13°F through +122°F).
