Ice Detecting Sensor features self-defrosting design.

Press Release Summary:

With adjustable ice sensitivity to less than 0.001 in., Ice*Meister(TM) Model 9734-HTR allows any controlling host to respond to earliest formation of ice and take remedial action in real-time. Pulsing 1.2 A at 24 Vdc, sensor's radiant heater heats sensor probe and melts away offending ice, while gravity alone removes icemelt. Temperatures of aluminum heater panels are limited to 50°C for personnel safety. Applications include webcams, radio towers, weather stations, and telescopes.

Senses raindrops for sprinkler control.

Fort Lauderdale FL USA, June 8, 2009 -- New Avionics Corporation here announces the availability of a new self defrosting ice sensor for detecting the earliest formation of ice on webcams and walkways, radio towers, oil wells; weather stations, power stations; telescopes, bridges, blimps and all manner of remote, inaccessible, unmanned facilities.

New Ice*Meister(TM) Model 9734-HTR Self Defrosting Industrial Ice Detecting Sensor System allows any controlling host to respond to the very earliest formation of ice and take remedial action in real time. Ice sensitivity is adjustable to <0.001 inch. Pulsing 1.2 A at 24 VDC, Model 9734-HTR's unique radient heater heats the sensor probe and melts away the offending ice. Gravity alone removes the icemelt.

A resistance heater and thermal switch are affixed to each heater panel inside the solid sensor head (see photos). Insulating epoxy potting compound assures maximum radiant heat for the optical sensor probe. Temperatures of the ice-melting aluminum heater panels are limited to a mild 50 deg C for personnel safety.

Heater control can be set for least ice threshold or least energy consumption. While operating, system allows the host ice-control system to cycle back-and-forth across the threshold of ice formation in real time; prevent protected facilities from accumulating ice, and use the least amount of energy to do it.

The entire system consists of three parts:

  • An Ice*Meister(TM) optical sensor head with radiant heater option, potted throughout with two-part epoxy and solid as a brick; hermaticity is assured.

  • Two lightweight shielded blue cables of four AWG 24 color coded wires connect the sensor head to companion Model 9733 Universal User Interface; the cables operate down to -70 deg C.

  • The 9733 interface itself is housed in an easy-to-install DIN rail box with simple screw terminals; the only tool required for installation is a screwdriver.

PRICE & DELIVERY: In unit quantities, Ice*Meister(TM) Model 9734-HTR Self-Defrosting Industrial Ice Detecting Sensor System complete with DIN rail option is priced at $USD 2995.00 . Delivery is quoted at 4-6 weeks ARO.
