Rockwell Automation Launches the Industry's Most Extensive Line of Modular, On-Machine(TM) I/O Modules

Allen-Bradley® ArmorPoint(TM) I/O combines the benefits of a plug-and-play I/O system with a rugged, IP67-rated design.

MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio, April 26, 2004 - Rockwell Automation today unveiled the Allen-Bradley® ArmorPoint(TM) line of I/O, a modular, industrially-hardened system consisting of adapters, I/O modules, power supplies and backplane bus extenders.

All of the products in the ArmorPoint platform are IP67-rated, which means they are water- and corrosion-proof, and can be placed directly on the machine (rather than exclusively in cabinets). Adding to the portfolio of On-Machine(TM) products from Rockwell Automation, this new line saves users considerable time and money with a compact, durable design that helps reduce wiring, increase productivity and improve control system reliability and flexibility.

The initial launch of ArmorPoint includes 30 I/O modules and communication adapters for DeviceNet(TM), ControlNet(TM), EtherNet/IP(TM) and other open networks - giving OEMs and end users the most comprehensive line of modular, IP67 I/O currently available.

Plus, ArmorPoint provides small increments of I/O per module, one to eight channels, building on the popular concept of buying "just what you need." I/O module types include DC, AC, digital, analog, counters, encoders and serial interfaces.

"In addition to the sheer breadth of the ArmorPoint line, these modules provide users with an operational experience identical to the well-established IP20 POINT I/O(TM) system - a technology first in the industry," said Tom Trombley, Armor I/O product manager, Rockwell Automation. That's because ArmorPoint I/O features an architecture based on the Allen-Bradley POINT I/O system. It reuses the POINT I/O electronics and plug-and-play configuration methodology, allowing users to leverage their knowledge of the POINT I/O system and reduce training requirements.

ArmorPoint I/O also offers users a number of key benefits inherent to On-Machine solutions, including:
· Improved mean time to repair: as a result of improved and easier-to-read diagnostics, and faster part change-out capability
· Improved reliability: thanks to simplified wiring that reduces errors and leads to fewer points of failure
· Increased productivity: due to the product's straightforward engineering and documentation. This results in faster and easier installation, allowing machines to reach productivity levels more rapidly than before
· Reduced total costs: resulting from the simpler design and easy installation, which lead to less downtime.

Combined with the recently announced ArmorBlock(TM) modules, ArmorPoint I/O modules and communication adapters represent the foundation of Rockwell Automation's growing Armor(TM) family. The addition of these new On-Machine products gives users access to the broadest range of support for IP67 I/O and networks available today.

Thirty ArmorPoint I/O modules are available immediately, as well as ControlNet and four versions of DeviceNet adapters. The EtherNet/IP adapter will be released early this summer.
