Rockwell Automation Announces New Modules for Allen-Bradley POINT I/O(TM) Family

New modules offer cost-effective, flexible customization for POINT I/0(TM) applications.

MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio, January 25, 2002 - Rockwell Automation has introduced eight new I/O modules for its Allen-Bradley POINT I/O(TM) family, demonstrating a continued trend toward more functionality in smaller control packages. Included among the modules are new options for digital, analog, thermocouple and Resistance Temperature Detectors (RTD) control applications.

"The POINT I/O product family's popularity comes from its highly-distributed, cost-efficient design," said Jim Iubelt, POINT I/O product manager, Rockwell Automation. "The new specialty modules bring powerful capabilities to users looking for a system that has terminal bases with removable terminal strips, low-count I/O modules and networking interfaces that can be snapped together to meet the exact needs of an application."

Contrary to other "just enough" I/O solutions, POINT I/O includes unique value-add features such as a gold-plated backplane for structural integrity, wire-off indication, and
point-level diagnostics.

The new POINT I/O modules include:

* Ideal for general industrial control applications, the POINT I/O Digital Modules (1734-OV2E, -OV4E, -OB2EP and -OX2) offer field-device compatibility, helping customers eliminate the costs of unused digital voltage I/O and reduce the size of the local panel at the field device location.

* For industrial and process control applications with analog needs, the Analog Modules (1734-IE2V and -OE2V) add voltage capability to the product's analog functionality. The new modules help provide a highly granular and cost-effective interface to analog voltage field devices located more than 20 feet from the system controller. These modules help customers avoid the costs of unused analog I/O and reduce the size of the local panel.

* The POINT Thermocouple Module (1743-lT21) is a two-channel isolated thermocouple input module capable of linearizing many thermocouple types to degrees Celsius or degrees Fahrenheit. Each channel is individually isolated to reduce grounding and noise issues, and can be configured independently while having its own status and fault bits.

* For industries that must measure temperatures with a high degree of accuracy and linearity, the POINT RTD Module (1734-lR2) is a two-channel RTD input capable of linearizing Platinum, Nickel or Copper RTDs to degrees Celsius or degrees Fahrenheit. Each channel can be configured independently and has its own status and fault bits.
