LaneLink(TM) I/O Connector System from Molex Support InfiniBand 4X and 12X Technology

LISLE, IL - September 9,2002 - Molex Incorporated (NASDAQ: MOLX and MOLXA), a global electronic component company, today announced development of its LaneLink(TM) product line, which supports the new InfiniBand* 4X and 12X link technology for the server industry.

Molex's LaneLink 4X and 12X connectors are a cable-to-board I/O system optimized for differential signaling at 2.5 Gbps per pair. The pcb receptacle, with its die cast frame featuring unitary latch posts and screw attachment to the pcb, provides outstanding isolation of cable loads from the SMT solder tails. The cable wire terminates directly to the plug contacts, eliminating the need for an interposer, improving signal integrity and reliability. A unique wire guide and strain relief captures individual wires and attaches to the ground contacts to isolate cable movement from the wire termination. Pinch-to-release latch levers provide positive latch opening prior to unmating cable.

InfiniBand architecture is an industry standard for server input/output communications that offers one integrated fabric for all types of communication. It provides the bandwidth needed to connect storage and communications networks and server clusters together, while providing performance, reliability, scalability and flexibility that the server industry will require over the next decade. The InfiniBand architecture delivers three levels of performance: 1X link technology (5.0 Gbps); 4X link technology (20.0 Gbps) and 12X technology (60.0 Gbps).

"Now that we have added the LaneLink 4X and 12X product line to our existing 1X or HSSDC2 product line, we can offer the industry a complete range of copper interconnects for InfiniBand systems," says Jay Neer, Strategic Product Manager for Molex. "As a member of the InfiniBand Trade Association, Molex is committed to helping enable this emerging technology across the server industry."

Samples of Molex's LaneLink product are now available. Production quantities will be available at the end of 2002.

Molex Incorporated is a 64-year-old global manufacturer of electronic, electrical and fiber optic interconnection systems. Based in Lisle, Illinois, USA, the company operates 54 manufacturing facilities in 19 countries. The Molex Website address is www.molex.com.
