Sauer-Danfoss Releases New Compact Hydraulic Motor

The L and K family is complete, offering small, easy-to-use motors with advantages in flexibility, performance and installation

AMES, IA, USA; SAUER-DANFOSS INC. (NYSE: SHS; FSE: SAR)
Sauer-Danfoss has just announced the release of its newest motors for off-road hydraulic mobile equipment, the L Frame Cartridge mount motor (LC) and its larger companion, the K Frame motor, Cartridge and SAE mounts (KV and KC). They accompany the popular L Frame SAE Variable mount motor (LV) that already has a reputation in the industry for quality, reliability and cost effectiveness since its release in 1998. Both the L and K Frames are packaged in the same compact envelope for efficient production and reduced lead time.

Sauer-Danfoss' motor innovation is suitable to any medium-duty application requiring a compact motor assembly with the benefit of a smooth and predictable shift, such as skid steer loaders, aerial work platforms, small agricultural sprayers, and light- and medium-power construction and road-building machines. The L and K Frame motors offer design engineers and OEM purchasing agents compact size, superior shift performance and low noise, with the choice of five pressure/displacement ratings. The two-position motors are designed to meet the demanding requirements of numerous medium-power wheel motor applications. The zero-degree displacement capability provides application flexibility when used in multiple motor circuits.

The L and K motors were also developed with service and installation needs in mind. Full access to the mounting bolt holes is possible, and all main hydraulic connections can be located on one side for easy bundling of hoses. When compared to a fully integrated motor and gearbox, the L and K motors are much more serviceable, with simple removal of the motor from the mating gearbox. The cartridge motor interface is something of a standard in the industry, as all major gearbox suppliers offer mating gearbox solutions.

"The new motors are simply derivatives of the existing L Frame SAE motor (LV) that has one of our best track records for reliability and delivered quality," said Randy Rodgers, Hydrostatic Product Manager. "We took both the design engineers' and the end users' issues into consideration when we designed the L and K motors. The Cartridge motor, for instance, meets the minimum requirements for compactness, while optimizing shift behavior. This allows for nearly seamless shift transitions from work to travel and back to work. No competitive medium-power motor can match our shift performance."

The single-package concept behind the production of the L and K motors maximizes the use of raw materials by creating multiple motor displacements within one common envelope. A new motor with a different combination of displacement and pressure capability can be created easily by making minor machining changes internally and/or introducing a new rotating kit. This translates into competitive pricing and more value to the customer.

Rodgers said Sauer-Danfoss has had inquiries for the L and K Frame motors from OEMs in Europe, Asia and all over the U.S., and is open to collaboration and co-production arrangements. "The L/K family is an example of our long-term commitment to the mobile equipment industry and our desire to be the easiest supplier to work with," said Rodgers.
