Dow Introduces New UCON(TM) Anhydrous Hydraulic Fluids Products

New Product Line Combines Environmental Viability with High Performance

MIDLAND, Mich. - (April 29, 2003) - The Industrial Chemicals business of The Dow Chemical Company has introduced two new anhydrous (water-free) high performance hydraulic fluids, as part of its UCON(TM) fluids family of products. UCON PowerPro(TM) AW and UCON Trident(TM) AW Hydraulic Fluids are high performance fluids designed for demanding industrial applications requiring fire resistance and excellent anti-wear properties over a wide range of temperatures.

UCON Trident AW Hydraulic Fluids provide key performance benefits, including increased environmental sensitivity and water solubility. These fluids are ideal for use in applications such as dockside/marine, forestry, amusement, and industrial operations. UCON PowerPro AW Hydraulic Fluids are biodegradable and do not hydrolyze in the presence of water. These fluids are ideal for use in applications such as slag hauling, aluminum stamping, forging, die-casting, and steel forming.

"These new anhydrous products are the result of Dow's focus on technological innovation and product development," said Jim Batt, business director for Dow Performance Fluids. "We had several key objectives in the development of these hydraulic fluids: to fulfill industry standards for fire resistance in the lubricants market, while also meeting global environmental standards."

UCON Trident and PowerPro each offer unique benefits for hydraulic fluid applications. They both have exceptional load-carrying capabilities and are specially formulated to provide effective corrosion protection and anti-wear performance in hydraulic systems.

In addition, the fluids have both been classified as Flammability Rated Group-1 by FM Approvals. All of these features help to ensure greater operating reliability, less downtime, and lower maintenance costs.
