Komatsu America Corp. Launches New Hydraulic Excavators

PC300LC-7 and PC400LC-7 Driven by Productivity, Advanced Design, Reliability

Vernon Hills, IL, February 14, 2006 - Komatsu America Corp. today introduced its new PC300LC-7 and PC400LC-7 hydraulic excavators. Reflecting the company's leadership in excavator design, Komatsu has developed upgraded versions of these two market-leading models, distinguished by enhanced productivity, improved fuel economy, reduced sound levels and solid reliability.

The powerful PC300LC-7 has a flywheel horsepower of 246 HP and an operating weight of 73,432 to 77,298 pounds, while the larger PC400LC-7 has a flywheel horsepower of 345 HP and an operating weight between 95,901 and 101,684 pounds.

Both are equipped with the latest Komtrax technology, which sends machine operating information to a secure website utilizing wireless technology. Data such as operating hours, location, cautions and maintenance alerts are relayed to the web application for analysis. The Komtrax fleet monitoring system increases machine availability, reduces the risk of machine theft, allows for remote diagnosis by the distributor, and provides a wealth of other information to drive business efficiency and productivity.

Special features of the new PC300LC-7 and PC400LC-7 include:

Efficiency enhanced by easy maintenance
Both machines were designed to provide easy service and maintenance access in order to reduce costly downtime. The radiator and hydraulic oil cooler are mounted side by side, making it simpler to maintain and service these two components when required. These hydraulic excavators are equipped with the exclusive Komatsu EMMS (Equipment Management Monitoring System), which performs three main functions that are displayed on a large LCD color monitor. EMMS continually monitors all critical excavator systems, alerting and guiding the operator should a problem occur. EMMS often prevents a small problem from becoming a major service issue, contributing to reduced cost of operation. Second, the system tracks the preventative maintenance schedule, providing on-board tracking and warning of current required maintenance. Third, EMMS provides error codes and troubleshooting assistance to mechanics in order to minimize diagnosis and repair time.

Built for durable reliability
All PC300LC-7 and PC400LC-7 major components are designed and produced by Komatsu. Booms and arms exhibit long-term durability and are highly resistant to bending and torsional stress due to large cross-sectional structures, thick high tensile strength steel and interior partition walls. Komatsu frames are designed using the most advanced three-dimensional CAD and FEM analysis technology. Highly reliable electronic devices have passed severe testing, metal guard rings protect all hydraulic cylinders, and DT-type electrical connectors seal tight against dirt and moisture. Hydraulic hoses are equipped with O-ring seals versus conventional taper seal to provide extended leak-free life.

High performance with low fuel consumption
The PC300LC-7 gets its exceptional power and work capacity from a Komatsu SAA6D114E-3 engine, while the PC400LC-7 is equipped with the Komatsu SAA6D125E-5 engine. Both engines comply with the new EPA Tier 3 and EU stage 3A emission regulations and provide low noise operation and improved fuel efficiency. Updated fuel filtration is new to these two engines: a 10 micron fuel pre-filter with integral water separator and a 2 micron primary fuel filter.

The PC300LC-7 and PC400LC-7 are equipped with two boom mode settings, four working modes, and a Power Max control. These modes are designed to match engine speed, pump flow, and system pressure to specific application requirements, providing the operator with flexibility to match equipment performance to the job at hand. With many excavators operating a wide variety of working attachments, the PC300LC-7 and PC400LC-7 are equipped with Breaker mode to allow the operator to adjust hydraulic flow directly from the cab via the EMMS system. Attachments can be changed with minimum time and effort.

The PC300LC-7 has higher operating weight and improved weight distribution, providing significant improvement in lifting capacity.

Cab enhancements provide comfortable working environment
A wide spacious cab provides excellent operator comfort for reduced fatigue and higher productivity. The multi-position, PPC (pressure proportional control) levers allow the operator to work in comfort while maintaining precise control. The cab is highly rigid, offers wide visibility, and has excellent sound absorption. Both machines use a multi-layer viscous cab mounting system that incorporates longer stroke and the addition of a spring. Combined with a high rigidity deck, the new cab damper mounting reduces noise and vibration levels at the operator seat. A high capacity automatic heater/defroster/air conditioning system is standard equipment on both models.
