Hybrid PDU featuring NEBS Level 3 approval.

Press Release Summary:

Hybrid DC SMARTStart® combines high-power (30-100 A), direct-feed breakers with discrete, low-power (2-20 A) breaker channels. Configuration lets PDU provide remote breaker cycling capabilities within same 1U package for applications with both direct-feed high and intermediate power requirements. Available with -48, +12, and +24/+28 Vdc input voltages, PDU uses integral feature to perform Low Voltage Disconnect (LVD) without requiring additional hardware.

SPMS Releases Enhanced DC SMARTStart® Hybrid PDU

State College, PA - May 8, 2009 - Spectrum Power Management Systems, a division of Spectrum Control, Inc., has updated the Hybrid DC SMARTStart® PDU design and obtained NEBS Level 3 approval. This unique design combines high power direct-feed breakers with discrete low power breaker channels. This configuration allows the PDU to provide remote breaker cycling capabilities within the same 1U package for applications with both direct-feed higher power and intermediate power requirements.

Spectrum Power Management Systems' new Hybrid DC SMARTStart® provides easy power cycling to DC powered routers/switches, blade servers, and other enterprise or Telco related equipment. It is also an ideal solution for Mission Equipment Packages (MEP) for use in tactical military remote communications applications, USV/Unmanned Surface Vessels, mobile observation towers, and simulation equipment.

This unit features auto reset circuit breakers with a high power circuit breaker, rated from 30 to 100 Amps, for higher rated applications and individual discrete solid state breakers, rated from 2 to 20 Amps per channel, for low to intermediate rated applications. Integral to the PDU is the feature to perform Low Voltage Disconnect (LVD) in the same package without the need of an additional piece of hardware. Input voltages are available in -48, +12, and +24/+28 VDC with an individual output steady state load range of 4-100 Amps.

The Hybrid DC SMARTStart® also includes an SNMP agent and onboard event log that can track up to 6 months of data, is flash upgradeable in the field, and provides reverse polarity protection. This efficient design monitors battery feed voltage status and the internal temperature of the PDU, while the front panel mounted ROCBs (Remote Operated Circuit Breakers) provide over current protection.

SPMS received NEBS Level 3 certification for this product offering from Stork Garwood Laboratories, Inc. in November, 2008. To obtain NEBS Level 3 certification, the DC SMARTStart® was subject to a multitude of extensive tests regarding Ambient Temperature and Humidity, Equipment Handling, Resistance to Fire, Earthquake Survivability, Vibration, Airborne Contaminants, ESD, Emissions, and AC Power Fault. Leonardo Marsala, Director of Sales and Marketing for Spectrum Power Management Systems, stated, "This is an outstanding achievement that our business unit is certainly proud of. NEBS Level 3 is the highest level of conformance to NEBS specifications. Although commonly required for the telecommunications industry, it is a major test of quality that is extremely valuable for any organization utilizing network equipment. It ensures that our DC SMARTStart® will operate properly in adverse conditions without interfering with other important devices."
