Hybrid Mass Spectrometer targets biomarker discovery.

Press Release Summary:

LCMS-IT-TOF liquid chromatograph/mass spectrometer utilizes atmospheric pressure ionization with ion-trap (IT) and time-of-flight (TOF) technologies to provide mass accuracy and mass resolution of 10,000 at 1,000 m/z. With 100 msec polarity switching speed, LC/MS combines compressed ion injection, ballistic ion extraction, and dual-stage reflectron technologies to suit applications in biomarker discovery, metabolite identification, and proteomics research applications.

Winner of the 2005 Pittcon Editor's Silver Award

Shimadzu Scientific Instruments has introduced the LCMS-IT-TOF Liquid Chromatograph/Mass Spectrometer, a novel hybrid mass spectrometer for biomarker discovery, metabolite identification and proteomics research. Coupling atmospheric pressure ionization with Ion-Trap (IT) and Time-of-Flight (TOF) technologies, the LCMS-IT-TOF delivers high mass accuracy and high mass resolution (10,000 at 1000 m/z) independent of MS mode.

Shimadzu's LCMS-IT-TOF has been designed to maximize sensitivity and selectivity by optimizing the ion transport to the TOF analyzer and redefining the capability of the quadrupole ion trap. The ion trap is not only used to focus ions before ejection into the TOF, but it also supports fragmentation, MSn analysis and a high precursor ion selection (resolution > 1,000 at 1,000 m/z). A high precursor ion selection allows specific ions to be isolated for further fragmentation, simplifying MS/MS data interpretation and enhancing the selectivity of detection, particularly from complex matrices. A fast polarity switching speed (100ms to switch between positive and negative ionization), combined with Compressed Ion Injection (patented), Ballistic Ion Extraction (patent pending), and Dual-Stage Reflectron (patent pending) technology, creates a true benchmark for biomarker discovery, metabolite identification, and proteomics research.
