Original Press Release:

NEW 1,500vdc UL/IEC Certified Contactors

Hermitically Sealed for Safe Reliable Switching

GIGAVAC announces the latest additions to their line of patented switching devices, the HX241 and HXNC241. These new hermitically sealed, HVDC contactors offer both normally open, HX241, and normally closed, HXNC241, versions. Both models have UL and IEC approval for operating at 1,500vdc. Designed and manufactured in the USA, these hermetically sealed GIGAVAC contactors join GIGAVAC’s line‐up of other sealed switching products including High Voltage Relays, EPIC® sealed contactors, and GIGAVAC MiniTACTORS.

With a compact package size of approximately 3x3 inches (77x77 mm), they are both designed to meet: UL1604 for Class I & II, Div. 2 and Class III for use in hazardous locations, IP67 for temporary water immersion for 30 min, SAE J1171 ‐ external ignition protection, and ISO8846 for protection against ignition around flammable gasses. Optional auxiliary contacts are available as SPST‐NO, normally open, or SPST‐NC, normally closed providing additional circuit flexibility. The sealed internal chambers for both the contacts and coil assures clean switching in any environment. Safe make and break power switching can be achieved for high power applications. With continuous current carry to 400A, these GIGAVAC sealed contactors are the perfect choice for many solar applications including inverters, and DC combiner boxes along with a variety of industrial drive systems including rail and traction applications that require a high voltage dielectric rating. According to Duffy McPherson, GIGAVAC’s Product Manager for HVDC Contactors, "This new series is the perfect companion to our other sealed switching products. It gives our customers a reliable alternative for their higher power switching requirements versus conventional open air and simply sealed products.”
