Introducing the Class 8839 ECONO-flex(TM) Type 3R Adjustable Speed AC Drive
PALATINE, III. - December 3, 2001 - A new enclosed drive for the HVAC market can be installed on rooftops and other outdoor locations, eliminating installation restrictions that often
hamper retrofit situations. The Class 8839 ECONO-flex(Tm) Type 3R drive from Square D/Schneider Electric is a packaged, outdoor-rated, adjustable speed drive ideal for commercial and industrial HVAC and pump applications.
"This drive is well suited for overcrowded mechanical rooms and long conduit runs commonly found in retrofit applications for large HVAC systems," said Susan Forsgard, drives marketing
manager at Square D. "By installing it outdoors, facility managers can take advantage of previously unusable space to increase uptime and reliability."
The Class 8839 ECONO-flex Type 3R drive is built tough for extreme environments often experienced in commercial and industrial HVAC applications, with industrial-rated control
operators and pilot devices to guarantee durability. In addition, the Type 3R includes a thermal management system that permits equipment operation in -10 to +50 degree Celsius ambient
temperatures.
The drive is equipped with a coordinated circuit breaker for short circuit protection, eliminating the need to use and stock fast-acting, semi-conducting fuses. Plus, the Class 8839 ECONO-
flex Type 3R drive is UL listed per 508-C for both drive and bypass operation. Motor isolation and bypass contactors have a mechanical and electrical interlock to prevent accidental
backfeeding, improving reliability.
Installation time can be greatly reduced with the drive's unique bottom conduit entries, which are pre-punched with conduit entry locations for easy mounting. The drive is pre-programmed for HVAC variable torque operation and pre-wired with HVAC controls and interface connection for easy set-up. Type 2B wiring simplifies wiring identification and termination to industrial-rated terminals.
The Class 8839 ECONO-flex Type 3R drive completes the family of SQUARE D ECONO-flex drives, which includes the Type 1 enclosure for indoor, non-dusty environments, the Type 12K enclosure for indoor, dusty/dripping liquid environments and the new Type 3R enclosure for outdoor environments.
