HumiSeal Introduces RemUVa(TM), a Conformal Coating Removal System for the European Market

Leading manufacturer of conformal coatings solutions, HumiSeal has announced the introduction of the RemUVa(TM), a machine designed to effectively and safely remove the most robust coatings from finished assemblies. Visitors to stand A4:425 can see the RemUVa(TM), which has a fully configurable nozzle to allow working on smaller intricate areas or removal of coating across a larger area with full control over air pressure and micro-abrasion material flow. This flexibility and unique micro-abrasion material means that the system does not damage adjacent devices, interconnects or printed circuit boards (PCBs) unlike other systems.

The RemUVa(TM) is a bench-top powder abrasion system designed to selectively remove conformal coatings including the acclaimed UV40 from various components on PCBs without causing any mechanical or ESD damage. RemUVa has been developed in conjunction with leading powder abrasion system designer Crystal Mark Inc, who have specialised in micro abrasion technology for over 30 years. The system is fully equipped with adjustable powder flow control and air pressure regulation to enable coating removal either from pinpoint areas or the entire board surface.

The system uses a unique abrasive media known as carbo-blast, which has been proven to be less aggressive than other alternatives. In situations where conformal coated components are sensitive to ESD, the RemUVa(TM) utilises a point ioniser to effectively reduce the ESD from reaching levels that could potentially damage components. This process is achieved by introducing a flow of positive and negative ions into the abrasive path at the exit point of the nozzle tip. To aid the operator, the chamber is also lit with black light making it much easier to see the UV fluorescing coating that is to be removed.

David Greenman, managing director for HumiSeal Europe, summed up the launch by saying:
"The RemUVa(TM) fits well with our product portfolio as it represents a reliable and viable alternative to more traditional removal systems such as solvent based strippers or the burn through process. There is a real environmental advantage to this system in that as well as producing absolutely no VOCs the abrasive powder is also completely natural and non-toxic. We have already seen some interest in the system across Europe and I am confident that it will continue to grow in popularity".
