Hughes Showcases Cutting-Edge Broadband Satellite Technology and Service Innovations at 14th Annual Seminar in Moscow

GERMANTOWN, Md. - Hughes Network Systems, LLC (HUGHES), the world's leading provider of broadband satellite networks and services, held its 14th annual technology seminar on May 12th in Moscow, showcasing the company's cutting-edge product and service innovations to attendees from its growing base of authorized service providers in Russia and the CIS countries, and including government officials and telecom media.

This year's seminar focused on the latest developments in Ka-band satellite technology and services globally, including advanced dual mode Ka/Ku-band HN Systems and terminals and On-The-Move platforms for airplanes, trains and ships, as well as the company's high-capacity AiReach® broadband wireless solutions. The seminar featured an interactive discussion on the current state and future of broadband satellite technology in Russia and CIS countries by executives from leading service providers Datagroup (Ukraine), Settelecom, KB Iskra, Synterra, and IPNet.

"This annual seminar is a highlight for all of us at Hughes, bringing together the premier satellite service providers from across this vast region to share their experiences and give us valuable feedback," said Dr. Arunas Slekys, vice president and general manager of Russia/CIS for Hughes. "Innovation is why we lead, and this kind of active dialog with our customers ensures that we design and build solutions that truly meet their needs - enabling us to maximize the value of the latest in technology advances. And the evidence of this successful formula is our continuing leadership. In 2010 Hughes shipped a record of over 320,000 broadband satellite terminals globally and crossed the 2.5 million mark cumulatively - with now more than 36,000 in Russia and CIS countries. We're especially excited about bringing our advanced Ka-band technology and services to the region as the broadband satellite market continues its unabated growth."

Hughes continues to remain the undisputed leader of the global VSAT business, consistently holding more than 50 percent market share according to the latest COMSYS VSAT report.

Its HughesNet® consumer broadband satellite service is the world's largest, with over 600,000 subscribers in North America, more than 60 percent of which operate over SPACEWAY® 3, the company's award-winning Ka-band, switch-in-the-sky satellite. Jupiter(TM) is Hughes' next-generation, Ka-band, 100+ Gbps, high-throughput satellite system, with 100 times the capacity of conventional Ku-band satellites, and will be launched in the first half of 2012. This technological platform is behind the company's vision for a satellite 'home of the future' where users will be able to surf the Web at high speed, watch high-definition movies, and make VoIP (Voice over IP) phone calls simultaneously, at download speeds of up to 20 Mbps.

Konstantin Lanin, head of the Hughes office in Moscow, commented, "Hughes' superior broadband technology and services enable our telecom provider partners in Russia and CIS to affordably offer service of unmatched quality and reliability to an expanding number of customers in the enterprise and government sectors in the region. Hughes is well-positioned to meet and support Russia's demand for current and next-generation broadband satellite technology and has proven time and again that it consistently delivers unmatched technology and service capabilities working in close cooperation with an ever expanding network of broadband service provider partners."
