Hughes Announces General Availability of Hybrid DSL/Satellite Services in Europe

HughesNet Managed Network Services maximize value, minimize complexity of enterprise-wide broadband networks

GERMANTOWN, Md., July 17 / / -- Hughes Network Systems, LLC (HUGHES), the world's leading provider of broadband satellite network solutions and services, today announced the general availability in Europe of HughesNet(R) Managed Network Services. This suite of fully managed virtual private network (VPN) solutions for multi-site enterprise networks offers customers the choice of broadband access technologies at each site, whether DSL, satellite, private line or in a combination.

"HughesNet Managed Network Services provides a single, comprehensive offering that leverages available broadband technologies to achieve the most cost-effective and robust networking solutions," said Mike Darcy, president of Hughes Europe. "Customers can choose terrestrial, satellite or both technologies on a site-by-site basis to optimise their objectives for cost, deployment speed, reliability, and bandwidth-all delivered and backed by Hughes, a world leader in managed network services."

HughesNet Managed Network Services includes both Optimized and High Availability VPNs. HughesNet Optimized VPN provides customers with a single service management interface, bringing an immediate view of service delivery status whether access is provided by landline or satellite technologies. Hughes has negotiated wholesale DSL arrangements with leading providers in key countries in Europe, and will deploy more than 4,000 lines of ADSL sites for enterprise customers in the U.K., Germany, and other countries by the end of the third quarter 2007.

HughesNet Optimized VPN also offers a unique "Package Delivery" capability that automatically distributes and launches data or video files across a customer's network utilizing both multicast over satellite and unicast over DSL solutions, with confirmation of successful delivery to each site.

HughesNet High Availability VPN is a unique solution for access continuity that uses both DSL and satellite at each site to mitigate the business impact of network failure and service disruption.

"On top of the basic wide area (WAN) infrastructure, we bring some unique capabilities to the managed network services playing field," said Keary Cannon, Hughes Europe's vice president of sales and marketing. "For customers with sites requiring very high availability, we can deploy DSL with satellite in a load-sharing mode or as a backup with automatic failover, ensuring continuous VPN availability at critical sites."
