HP Helps VIVACOM Integrate Fixed and Mobile Networks for Better Services

Network consolidation speeds new services to market - and reduces cost

PALO ALTO, Calif. - HP today announced that VIVACOM Bulgaria is using HP solutions and expertise to build a next-generation intelligent network (NGIN) that can increase efficiency and deliver a better, more personalized experience for more than 600,000 prepaid and virtual private network customers.

VIVACOM is a major telecommunications provider in Bulgaria, offering a range of services in fixed and mobile voice, broadband data and television. By moving to NGIN, which includes support for voice-over-Internet Protocol (VOIP)-based applications, VIVACOM strengthens existing services and opens the way to future services that take advantage of real-time capabilities in the network.

Working with VIVACOM, HP consolidated its different networks at the service layer, using the standards-based HP NGIN solution. With a single platform linking the network service layers in both core network and IT domains, VIVACOM can control all services - voice, data and messaging - in real time, and manage prepaid billing.

With HP NGIN, VIVACOM achieves three key benefits:

- rapid rollout of new, integrated services across all networks;

- increased revenue generation by allowing the bundling of attractive, cross-network promotions for all users, and

- reduced operating costs.

"Our No. 1 priority is customer satisfaction, and our integrated network platform is a key building block," said Bernard Moscheni, chief operating officer, VIVACOM. "Convergence is happening on many levels, and HP's deep expertise in both core network and IT technologies was instrumental in the success of the project."

The consolidated platform also provides an open, flexible development environment, allowing VIVACOM and third parties to create new services more efficiently.

"VIVACOM is able to offer Bulgarian customers more innovative services with a consolidated network platform driven by HP NGIN," said Erwan Menard, vice president and general manager, Communications and Media Solutions, HP. "With deep expertise in both IT and telecom, HP can be a catalyst for the transformational strategies that lead to growth."

The HP NGIN solution integrates network and IT domains, and includes:

- HP Universal Signaling Platform for network integration

- HP OpenCall Convergent Communication Platform for real-time execution

- HP OpenCall Media Platform for rich media interaction

- HP Convergent VPN (virtual private network)

- HP Virtual PBX (virtual private exchange)

- HP BladeSystem servers running carrier-grade Linux
