HP Deskjet Marks 20 Years as World's Best-Selling Printer

PALO ALTO, Calif. Feb. 28, 2008 - HP today celebrated the 20th anniversary of the HP
Deskjet printer, the world's top-selling printer brand.(1)

Relied on by more than 240 million customers around the world, the HP Deskjet-branded
printer continues to outsell all other inkjet printers on the market 20 years after its first introduction.(1)

In conjunction with this anniversary, HP announced two new HP Deskjet printer series
designed to make it easy for consumers to create, manage and publish their content.
They use new HP 60 series ink cartridges, which are designed for everyday home
printing of documents, web pages, photos and more.

HP Deskjet advances through two decades
Launched in February 1988, the HP Deskjet was the world's first single-sheet, desktop
printer. Originally priced at $995, the reliable HP Deskjet featured an average speed of just 2 pages per minute (ppm).(2)

Today, the HP Deskjet has transformed into a high-speed, lightweight printer with a
multitude of features from wireless connectivity to intuitive software and hardware
installation for quick and easy setup. Ideal for printing everyday document and photos,
current HP Deskjet models print up to 36 ppm(2) and are priced as low as $29, with
many priced at less than $100.(3)

A complete timeline of the HP Deskjet is available at http://www.hp.com/go/deskjet20.

HP unveiled two new Energy Star®-compliant printers - the HP Deskjet D2500 Printer
Series and HP Deskjet F4200 All-in-One Series, both designed with reliable, easy
operation in mind.

Both printer series feature new HP 60 ink cartridges with HP Vivera inks, offering laser quality black text and vivid graphics with water- and smudge-resistant properties.

Additionally, these HP Deskjet series include user-friendly printing features such as a onetouch print-cancel button to prevent the printing of unwanted pages and an ultra-compact 80-sheet fold-up paper tray. The printers also boast easy photo printing from 4 x 6-inch to panorama-size, automatic red-eye removal and seamless Snapfish integration(4) with HP's intuitive Photosmart Essential software.(5)

When it's time to order replacement ink cartridges, convenient ink alerts and HP
SureSupply make it easy for customers to find the cartridges that work with their printers through a variety of online sources.(6) In addition, HP offers free and convenient cartridgerecycling options through the HP Planet Partners recycling program.(7)

All new HP Deskjet printers feature the HP Smart Web Printing tool for simple,
predictable printing from the web. With the tool, web pages are automatically adjusted
to prevent cut-off edges. Users can easily select and print only the content they want - saving paper and ink as well as time.(5)

The HP Deskjet D2500 Printer Series is expected to be available this spring for $49,
while the HP Deskjet F4200 All-in-One Series is expected to be available this spring for $79.(3)

New ink cartridges enable easy and affordable printing for the home
Also new this spring, the HP 60 Black and Tri-color Ink Cartridges with Vivera inks
featured on the new Deskjet series deliver laser-quality black text and vivid graphics
with water and smudge-resistant properties. The low-cost, high-quality cartridges are
ideal for printing documents, letters and web pages.

HP 60 Black and Tri-color Ink Cartridges with Vivera inks feature a new dye-based color
and pigment-based black ink formulation that delivers excellent quality on a variety of
plain and specialty papers. The HP 60 ink cartridges use a new printhead design that
delivers smaller ink droplets for more finely detailed images and graphics.

HP 60 Ink Cartridges are also newly molded from recycled plastic resins. More than 70
percent of each cartridge body (by weight) is recycled content from used HP cartridges
collected through the HP Planet Partners recycling program and other sources such as
water bottles.

Additionally, customers who use papers with the ColorLok logo will enjoy enhanced
document quality - including bolder blacks for improved contrast and sharper text and
uniform colors for vibrant graphics. Documents on ColorLok papers also dry faster,
allowing customers to handle printed pages right away with less smearing.

For frequent printing, HP offers optional high-capacity cartridges for the HP Deskjet
D2500 Printer Series and HP Deskjet F4200 All-in-One Series - the HP 60XL Black ink
cartridge and the HP 60XL Tri-color ink cartridge. Providing greater value to customers, these cartridges produce three times more black and two times more color pages than standard supplies for Deskjet printers. This represents a savings of more than 33 percent for black and 26 percent for color.(8)
