Dow Corning Introduces Second Generation of InstantGlaze Hot Melt Technology

MIDLAND, Mich., Sept. 13 / -- Dow Corning Corporation, a global leader in silicon-based technology and innovation, today introduced InstantGlaze II at the GlassBuild America conference at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Ga.

InstantGlaze(R) II allows easy application and installation of glass for residential and small commercial window and door manufacturers while increasing productivity up to 33 percent over tape glazing. Responding to customer feedback on the successful launch of InstantGlaze I in 2004, InstantGlaze II is a lower-viscosity, softer material that squeezes down during application to increase contact surface with the window while offering the same green strength, reduced hold time and increased efficiency of InstantGlaze I.

"This next generation of InstantGlaze technology meets the needs of customers who asked for a softer feel and still provides all of the performance benefits of our revolutionary hot melt technology," said David Heying, Dow Corning's window & door sales manager for North America.

The softer texture of InstantGlaze II also increases elasticity and elastic recovery performance, which have passed tests to meet the newly instituted Dade County, Fla. hurricane standards. Dade County maintains the most stringent hurricane building codes in the United States of America. InstantGlaze I is used in the commercial and residential sales markets. InstantGlaze II is used solely in the residential and light construction markets.

Both Dow Corning InstantGlaze I and InstantGlaze II sealants and their vertical application technology allow manufacturers to produce high quality windows and doors that increase productivity up to 33 percent over tape glazing. Vertical glazing eliminates the need to raise and lower the product for traditional horizontal glazing application methods, saving time and labor. The sealant's patented formulation delivers the superior performance of silicone without the squeeze-out problems and cure hold times of other wet glazing methods. InstantGlaze has a 24-hour pot life and up to 15 minutes of open time, yet develops instant green strength so there are no fabrication delays. The sealant gives immediate aggressive adhesion, without sagging, to vinyl, wood, glass, aluminum, painted or treated wood, high performance paint and fiberglass.

Dow Corning, which develops, manufactures and markets diverse silicon-based products, currently, offers more than 7,000 products to customers around the world. Dow Corning is a global leader in silicon-based materials with shares equally owned by The Dow Chemical Company and Corning Incorporated. More than half of Dow Corning's sales are outside the United States.
