Honeywell and Pratt & Whitney Submit Joint Proposal for Military Turboshaft Engine
Goals Include Improved Fuel Consumption and Increased Shaft Horsepower to Weight Ratio for Advanced Affordable Turbine Engine
PARIS, June 18 -- PARIS AIR SHOW -- Honeywell (NYSE:HON) and Pratt & Whitney announced today that they have submitted a joint proposal to the U.S. Army's Aviation Applied Technology Directorate to develop an advanced turboshaft engine for the Advanced Affordable Turbine Engine (AATE) technology demonstrator program. Pratt & Whitney is a United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX) company.

Goals for the 3000 SHP-class AATE program include a 25 percent improvement in specific fuel consumption as well as a 65 percent increase in shaft horsepower to weight ratio. The program will validate technologies needed to achieve aggressive performance improvements and could lead to a follow-on program to develop a replacement engine for the U.S. Army's UH-60 BLACK HAWK and AH-64 Apache helicopters.
